Heli hovering
Well now that I got my answers regarding auto-fire, it's time to ask bout heli's!
I'm a prominant heli pilot in PR, and fly whenever I can and whenever it's appropriate. But one thing I've noticed that bugs me to no end. Is sometimes if you let up on the throttle, your heli will just hover. Other times if you let up on the throttle it'll fall like a rock. On the same server I can hover sometimes, other times I fall. Sometimes it happens in the same round.
Why is it so random? And is there any way to know if it's that way? Since my heli tactics depend heavily on whether it'll hover as it should, or if I have to manually hover (Which is vastly inferior as I can't do it fluidly, so makes using things like attack heli's pointless)

Re: Heli hovering
Are you using an analogue throttle?

No, I use keyboard and mouse to fly heli's. Sometimes if I take my finger off the W key it'll just remain stationary, very slowly losing altitude (Very slowly, 1 meter every few seconds). Other times if I let go of the W key I fall like a rock.Sgt.Smeg wrote:Are you using an analogue throttle?

Re: Heli hovering
It's quite random, and strikes on all servers I've ever gone to. Sometimes you'll just hover, other times you'll drop like a rock unless you maintain speed (I find 50% or more otherwise I fall). I'd really like to know what causes this.

Re: Heli hovering
I sometimes got this as well b4 I started using a joystick throttle, I expect it had somethings to do with ur air speed before you decrease thrust

Re: Heli hovering
Take a picture of the hud when this happens. Some helis are really unstable, the mec havoc will hover forever if you place it just right but mostly all of them will drift to some extent.
It shouldnt fall straight down unless you press the backwards key or have a joystick plugged in?
The old blackhawk was the worst offender and would fly off at 1000 if you dipped the nose 5 degrees

I find the MEC transport helicopter hovers the best. Just get the HUD lines up and stuff and it just sits in the air.

Re: Heli hovering
Each helo has a different percentage of throttle needed for a hover, and thus at, for example 5%, some will fall fast, some slow, some hover, etc. etc.

Re: Heli hovering
Use a throttle control, either a stand-alone one or an inbuilt one as part of a joystick.
It makes hovering completely effortless and natural.

When i dont hold W or S my chopter will hover normally... Never had it drop like a rock without pressing the S key

Well you will descend a little bit, you need a joystick throttle to truly maintain height without moving.Waaah_Wah wrote:When i dont hold W or S my chopter will hover normally... Never had it drop like a rock without pressing the S key

Re: Heli hovering
I can hover pretty good when my heli doesn't fall like a rock. It seems like it might be a bug since it shouldn't fall like a rock, right? I have a joystick aswell but I can NOT fly heli's with that thing, and trying to use the throttle part without the joystick part would be a real pain. So I guess I'm just stuck with the way it is now lol.

Re: Heli hovering
Unplug the joystick, place it in another room. Reboot, turn three times on the spot and throw salt over your shoulder while hopping and hopefully the heli will work ok for you next time you play

Re: Heli hovering
Gazz, I don't hold S. My problem comes in when I essentially remove my hands from the keyboard (Keeping one on the mouse for stability of course) and the lack of thrust makes me fall like a rock. It's completely random for some reason, somtimes I let go of W and will just float there, as seen in the video posted earlier. Other times I'll fall as if I was holding S. It's really lame.
And Sabre, that made me chuckle lol.
