You can't blame EA for Westwoods lack of innovation and ultimate demise - there's only so much milking of the C&C title one can do.
Dice fit into the EA business model even if they weren't affiliated with them in the first place. EA are so big they need constant revenue (hence milking all sports titles until the year 3000). Dice make samey games set in different periods. Milk milk milk.
Death of Dice? Merger with EA!!!!

Im not saying Westwood would be out with Red Alert 5 by now if EA didn't buy them up but i bet you they would have made some other sweet games if they went brought up.MonkeyNutz wrote:You can't blame EA for Westwoods lack of innovation and ultimate demise - there's only so much milking of the C&C title one can do.

I loved Westwood's C&C, especially RA:Retaliation for PlayStation. Playing that thing on link cable versus a friend on a seperate TV was mad fun. Been a pretty big C&C fan ever since. Renegade was nasty IMO, but all the classic RTS's they made for PC - Tiberian Sun, RA2 and Yuri's Revenge, Generals and Zero Hour - were absolutely mind-blowing for their times.'[R-CON wrote:Rhino']WestWood Studios, made some of the best series of RTS Games ill probably ever play. The Command & Conquer series! First, Command & Conquer, then C&C Red Alert, then C&C Tiberian Sun (EA brought shears of Westwood like they did for dice at this point i think), then C&C Red Alert 2, Then Westwood made a FPS called C&C Renegade (was like BF2 where u drove tanks ect, was good for its day), Then EA brought up westwood 100%. Then EA released a shit game compared to the old C&C series called C&C Generals. Was nothing like the old C&C games. Now there is no sing of a new C&C comming out![]()
Same will probaly happen to the BF series
Anyway, the only thing that I would complain and ask about is 'Why the hell is it taking so long for the next game to appear?' The previous games sold like crazy, raked in the cash, and still have a massive fan following so I don't quite get it. Who's to blame, who knows.
If DICE ends up like Westwood has, that may be fine. As long as there's not another rediculously large gap of years between new games. I don't think Westwood's nor DICE's franchises have taken or will take a hit in quality for being under EA. [At least now they have 80-HR work weeks, mandatory from EA! Kidding..] Generals Zero Hour and Battlefield 2 are two of the top games ever made in their genre. ..It'd sure as hell better NOT be the Death of DICE.
