Re: Apache Radar Dome
Yes, nothing wrong with giving AA more range.
And no, it won't get the high hovering ability away, it would not make it harder for pilots anyway, since you can deploy counter meassures just a bit earlier, attracting missiles father away than usual.
But 2km? Ah come on, dont exaggerate.
Tactic is, when you are high enough for the missiles only, and not for the AA cannon (like the linebackers) you can deploy counter meassures while your gunner tries to search'n'destroy the AA, you just need to hold still and deploy counter meassures every time you get locked..
Remember you have around 10 packs of those counter meassures so when you reach 8 you can pull out and use the last 2 for cover..
Would work for me.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
I think it might make Apache pilots more careful about where they hover
And give em less flares. That'll sort out the hovering high problem
Everyone is like, but the Apache is soooo lethal, but dont forget it only really operates freely when there is no enemy anti air. The first strikes of the last Iraq war were by Apaches to take out enemy radar. The reason for this was local anti air couldnt track very low flying aircraft, and the Apache was chosen as it could fly much lower than an aeroplane.
When there is radar around Apaches should have to sneak about, and they should be looking to kill that before anything else, as then their lives become a lot easier. Fighters are there to kill other planes and shoot down helicopters, AA is there to kill anything in the sky, helicopters are there to kill AA, so everyone can go in and beat up the tanks
Thats how it should play in my opinion.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
What, never said it was a problem
Know you guys want apaches to be low and fire behind hills, but common, be realistic.
Tanks will take you out in 1 shot, noobs in transport helicopters would ram you and don't get me started on the HAT that may lure everywhere.
Could work, but only if you can scan areas.
And hovering on a altitude of 500 meters is hard enough, specially if you are going in for a "clean hover" So making aa's range more than 1km would be... how to but it... unfair.. But would encourage teamwork with tanks to take out the AA's AAANNDDD would encourage the helicopter to ambush the AA.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
So give them the Vehicle Radar that was suggested, have the pilot toggle it on and off, when on, AAVs instantly spot them if they're in radar range, but the chopper spots all vehicles in radar range.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
the thing is that they dont need to worry about AAs since they have already killed everything withing 38 sec of arriving to a destination including AAs. The only actual threat to the apache IRL is smallarms hitting the wrong place and hand-held AAs.Mescaldrav wrote:I think it might make Apache pilots more careful about where they hover

Also i can notice most of you discussing this have never flown the darn thing or maybe flown it for 5 min before crashing. You really have to try it and see how overpowered the AA already is and how incredably underpowered the apache is. Cus i mean sitting in an AA pointing in the general direction of anything flying and killing it is very defferent from the extreme teamplay you need between the apache pilot and gunner, not to mention the skill required to hover steadily enough and to make the darn missile hit the target. With an AA you just kinda look around you get a nice big green square and a nice tone then you fire and kill.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
This is what I was saying before.... this will make you careful where you hover, and the tank ballistics already mentioned should make it much harder to hit.
I'm all for implementing some kind of radar, but probably not a camera mounted on top of the Apache. I would however, be up for putting a camera and laser designator on top of one of these, and replacing the LBs on Kashan etc...

And Marko, I dont care about how amazing you have to be, attack helicopters dont sit at 500 feet if theres enemy radar up. And if have such incredible teamwork, you'll be able to do it 10 feet off the ground too.

Re: Apache Radar Dome
I will fly high whatever range the AA has. Until the gunner can lock onto targets and fire without hovering or we get stabilization, I will not feel safe flying low on a public server. If everyone is reporting positions even then I would think about it.
Put it this way. You pop up to shoot a tank, you have to hover for the whole duration of the shot, putting you at great risk. Other tanks around? HAT? LAT? APCs? The hellfire goes slower than a tank round, so thats another disadvantage.
Personally, I fell much safe flying high, away from all ground danger, above enemy choppers. At least I get a warning and countermeasures on what can hit me there.

"Today's forecast calls for 30mm HE rain with a slight chance of hellfires"
"oh, they're fire and forget all right...they're fired then they forget where the target is"

Re: Apache Radar Dome
i do fly 10 ft of ground usually less. I'm not the kind of pilot thats gonna sit up in the clouds hiding from AAs, im gonna tear it upp and eat it like a can of tuna if i have to.Mescaldrav wrote:This is what I was saying before.... this will make you careful where you hover, and the tank ballistics already mentioned should make it much harder to hit.

I'm simply saying i didn't get good at flying low without getting shot down a few times on the way. Its a hard tactic but its is IMHO much better then the others not to mention more fun. It just needs a boost, remember 0.6? when all the choppers flew low. It was awesome, pop up shot get down and fly away. I say we go back to the TVGMs

Flying low in will be a more desirable tactic in future releases.

As long as it doesn't nerve the attack choppers even more...

thinking about it im 95% sure its gonna be a disadvantage to the attack helos. Probably making the AAs ub3rm3g4sup3r1337 while completely removing the weapons from the attack helicopters. to tell you the truth this wouldn't surprise me.Mora wrote:As long as it doesn't nerve the attack choppers even more...

Yes yes, that's exactly what's happening. Cry cry, sob sob. Jeeze, do you do owt but complain about things that haven't even happened yet?

Re: Apache Radar Dome
Meh at this idea. It sounds amazing on paper but just think about it.
Any decent attack chopper knows that staying low to the ground is pure suicide, because even at high altitudes tanks take out the choppers sometimes...
The lazing system (especially in moving aircraft) is pretty buggy anyway, so there is another red mark.
Chopper gunners use the manually guided missles anyway because they much quicker.
But anyway, this reminds me of all the 1337 talk when the kiowa came about.
