Closing/opening helicopter doors system

Post by =Romagnolo= »

With airplanes, when you are near the ground and at low speed, the landing gear is automaticly put set down, even if you are not going to land.

So, is it possible to add this system to helicopter, but insted of landing gear, with their doors.

Example, imagine the Huey at Jabal, when it is full, it will take off and a little after the taking-off, the doors close and then when it reaches the land and when the helicopter is landing, the doors will automaticly open. It is only a detail and requests a litte more of codding, but I'm sure when it is ready and in-game, it will look nice.

Sounds good to me considering the fact that huey and merlin are unarmed; however, in combat, people don't always take the time to close the doors, but I still like the idea.

Seems good so the doors would protect the soldiers in the heuy wal they travel.

Every heli has a co-pilot, just make such an ability controlable by the co-pilot, like the Merlins backdoor. Actually makes having a compotent co-pilot worth it. As they'd have to open the doors ricky-tick on landing.

Yeah, that's a good idea. It will be like in OGT but everytime you go in a Huey: Close the door !! We are taking fire !!

Great idea, It would be good to have it manually done by either the Pilot or Co-Pilot but this leaves the chance that the pilot might forget to open them or the Co-Pilot may be new to the game and not know how to open if they close them by accident. Having the game do it automatically would solve all sorts of problems, possibly have it so the doors open at anything below 30 feet and close at anything over 30. Saves people falling out if they hit 'E' instead of 'T' or something (has been done).

Other than that it would add another bit of realism to the game. Even though its a minor thing every little bit helps. Hell even have a voice over letting everyone know the doors are opening or closing, something like 'Coming in to land doors opening'.

My two cents

There is already a UH-1N Iroquois (Huey) model that has miniguns, including operational doors that open and close. The gunner in seat positions 2 and 3 have control of the miniguns and these are opened and closed by simply pressing the W and S key depending on what gunner seat you're in. So basically, left door gunner (opens/closes left door.) and right door gunner (opens/closes right door.) respectively.

But I assure you, they don't work nor look that well. Generally the issue here is that the door gunners weapon "clips" through the door itself. So you'll basically see a barrel of a gun sticking out the door while it gets opened and closed, not that appealing. Also the doors don't seem to open or close the right way. It appears as if the doors are sliding off the model in some cases and actually collide and penetrate with the tail section of the helicopter aswell.

On another note.

Seeing as we're on the subject of helicopters and doors... I'm still wondering why the HC3 Merlin's door system isn't in the pilot's control. The Battlefield 2 engine already has options referred to as "Open/Close and Up/Down" to control the doors. The only issue I see here is that it's listed in the "Boat" menu instead, which could be the logical source of conflict.

Anyways... If it is possible to attach this ability to the pilot seat we'd be better off. I have beared witness and/or been a victim to some odd and rather... Simple minded disputes over people aimlessly opening or closing the doors on the HC3 Merlin without even having a legitimate reason. Just because of some random player that fails to grasp the concept that having the door open leaves the occupants additionally vulnerable to small arms fire. Also not to mention on how it actually causes damage to the helicopter when landing in certain cases...

Are you one of the players that cause the previously described situation to occur? Seriously, stop it. Unless you're 10 seconds away from your LZ you need to keep the door closed. I also find it annoying with those players out there with the mentality that feel they ABSOLUTELY MUST be co-pilot to just sit in a seat and open and close the door.

Honestly, Project Reality is at the whim of Battlefield 2 engine and we have limited resources for players as there is a maximum of 32 people on either side. This means that while you're joyriding in the co-pilot seat of the Merlin you're wasting valuable time. Yeah, and I mean it wasting time when you can get out of the chopper and go do something constructive like join a Tank or APC squad and Drive, Gun or Engineer for them. These people need the help the most, not goofing off in the chopper opening and closing the door that about 97% of the time they don't use.

Go out and be productive will you?

All I have to say to that, is don't lift off without briefing your co-pilot on how to use the doors ;) .

Like the idea.
But once you will close the door you have no reason to open it again coz the solвier can enter and exit vihacle no mater if door close or open.
If it's possible to make that you can enter/exit vihacle only when door open than will be great.
