[SUGGESTION] Insurgent camera

Post by thunderfox »

I made a little research and I think that my suggestion wasn’t posted before so here I go:

My Idea is to give the insurgent a Video camera (not recording a real video :p ) in there inventory ( a civ or an ambusher) so it may work like a SOFLAM ( without a lot zoom so it can’t be used as binoculars just x2) or it can just give point to a guy who’s filming an APC explosion ( maybe a bit hardcoded) but anyway I made a quick pic with paint to visualise what i mean.

what, so a Camcorder? with a bit of zoom added in?

Actually, I think that'd be a great deployable (limited kit... but similar to Spec-ops)
Laptop + Camcorder. You deploy the Camcorder, and then the Laptop comes up (like C4... the Laptop would be the "Detonator"). You "Shoot" the Laptop in order to bring up the camcorder on the laptop screen...

I can see the Spec-ops/IED combo that this would have... hehe... and it'd have less risk for the Ambusher and stuff... just place camera in a window or something and tell the other guy to detonate...

hehe:
American1: "Well, it took a while, but we finally cleared this bunker in Archer..."
American2: "Hey, a video Camera!"
American1: "Oh cra-" *boom*

Neat idea....just have to wonder how realistic this is. How many insurgents would have the resources to be able to do video surviellance.

Combat cameramen have been suggested before. But nothing like this, I think. Sounds like it could be interesting, especially if people post up some more ideas. Would be neat to have a bloke with a camera and another bloke with IEDs being able to see what the first bloke sees through his camera, so he'd be able to set off IEDs from a safe position.

Bring on the suggestions, lads and lasses!

Hm... it could also provide a ton of bluff for the Insurgents (is there an IED? is there not?)

I wonder if you could have a "preview" of the camera appearing, on the little tab-thing that sticks out... just so you don't get a first-hand view of a leaf/branch... that bit's probably hard-coded...

I've been thinking about this a lot, i just have no idea how it could change up the gameplay. It could work as binocs for civies, maybe make it so if an ambusher is around a civie and blows a bunch of people up, he gets a lot of points?

That would be an excellent Idea I would love to see that. I doubt it is possible with the crummy BF2 engine unless the lap top is the vehicle entry/exit point and the camera is the vehicle

Fine then... make it a deployable for the Insurgents. have the pickup truck be the "Command Truck."

I liked my C4 equivalent idea, though... Camera = C4, Laptop = Detonator, "Detonate" the Camera in order to look through it...

or maybe make it "unmanned," like a limited-sweep UAV-like deployable... with out the "A" part...

Ye I like this idea a lot Thunderfox. So should the camera be placeable (and therefore immoveable) or should it act like a big pair of binoculars?

The placeable camera with laptop sound interesting for many uses, but it is getting a bit Splinter Cell. Is it realistic?

On the other hand we know ppl in Iraq are filming bombings with handheld cameras, but what advantage does a video camera have over a pair of binoculars?

Hmm, cool idea but it's not realistic at all imo. So for this game/mod I'm more for the idea of taking binocs from the rocket guys and giving them to ambushers. That would make both of those kits play way more realistically.

We actually have a "cameraman kit" coded by dbzao. But it's only used for making promotional material (99 percent of the 0.6, 0.7, 0.75 media screenies were done with this camera kit).

This kit doesn't actually have a video camera modelled or anything, it's just an invisible weapon with various magnification levels.

I think the camera could act like a pair of multi-zoom binoculars for civvies. That way, the recorder can communicate about enemy positions, but is relatively safe himself(since he can't be shot). Also, the civilian with the camera could act as bait to lure people into a trap of sorts. The deployable camera sounds good, but I fear that everyone who saw it would know an ambush was near, so it would become useless after about 3 weeks of play.

Or it can be used for propaganda purpose.
Like if you film the APC geting blown up your team gets a point. If you get enough propoganda points. Additional weapon cache will be geaven to insurgents.

How about a 2 piece kit, similar to c4/detonator?

piece/model #1 = is handicam with a small transmitter with antenna taped to the side, selecting it and right clicking shows you what it "sees". left clicking places it on the ground at that location.

piece/model #2 = a miniature "tv" like you could get at a radio shack. right clicking takes you back to the screen that shows the placed camera view. I'd even make it a little grainy.

In real life this would be very possible if you had the video camera and a few radioshack parts. This camera could also be destroyed in a way similar to ralley points etc.

Thats assuming that it's even possible with the bf2engine.

It'd be really cool to have a small deployable monitor, while the civie can walk around with the camera out, and what the civie sees, the screen displays, (probably hardcoded) imagine seeing him walk around a corner on screen hearing the shouts of a british soldier arresting him :P .
Probably insanely hardcoded.
