[Map] Karkand Airport [scrapped]

This is a small project I've been working on over the past few days. Its more of a "test" map for me to see how the editor works than an actual product of work.

I based the entire map around one road sign, which said "Karkand Airport" on it. Really, a great source of inspiration.

Any comments, suggestions, or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Its good, just the object placement is kinda eh for the airport. Look for the ATC tower in the files..

The map is well made, the roads, the buildings and etc... But it is too small, so now you know how to map, you should try bigger maps, like basrah size or more like kashan.

About the airport, 2 strange things, the airplane is bigger than the lading-strip and that tower in the middle of the lading-strips, a plane would crash on that at landing.

Finally that sign is pointing to somewhere :p

And yeah, that cargo plane is too huge to fit in.

Thought about both of those.
Really wasn't thinking when i did it. :roll:

Is it possible to make a vehicle "static", so that it could take the place of that plane yet not be used by anyone?

Right-o, definitely gonna change that, and perhaps add some more static objects around the buildings.

One question:

If you guys take a look at the 6th picture down, you'll see that the roads overlap in a non-normal way. It looks really odd. Don't know any way to fix it.

Anyone have an idea?

you should use the intersection statics and connect your roads with them.

someone really needs to take a modern airport and fill a 4*4km map with just the airport - runways, hangars, control towers, warehouses, parked planes, radar stations...
too many mappers feel the need to clutter maps - keep it simple

Just an update as to what I've done/ planning on doing.

-I've removed the cargo plane and replaced it with some static jet fighters.
-Removed/ cleared up alot of space around the actual airport.
-Added some more buildings to the wide open space in the bottom right corner. Thinking about making it a small storage facility or something along those lines.
-Going to change the roads leading into the parking garages (via adding static intersections)
-Planning on adding a large number of small statics all over the map (like bus stops, street poles, etc. etc.)
-Getting better quality lightmaps/ENVmaps.

I'll submit some more pics tommorow. :-D

You should throw some kind of fence or something around the airport and move it back from the little town or w.e that is.

I like it for a WIP. :) However, I had some serious headaches and CTD problems on my map. Sadly, I did too much work and failed to test it in-game. :/ So I didn't know what the problem was. :p

So, be sure to test the map every so often using pr_edit. :) You'll have to copy the original PR shortcut, right-click on the new PR shortcut, Properties, change +modPath mods/pr to +modPath mods/pr_edit. Run the game using that shortcut AFTER you've done these few things to your map (thank the guides :) ):

All you need from that guide to test your map is the Init.con found in your level's folder. Replace the default code with proper code, which is pretty much everything shown there.

Now run the pr_edit shortcut, log-in, choose Multiplayer, choose Create Local and choose one of the sizes of your custom map. Add it to your local server, then start. If it loads without CTDing, you're good to go. Check out how your map looks in-game.

That aside, I like the idea and hope it turns out to be a battlefield for close-quarter combat. :mrgreen:
