Ideas for 0.8 promotion

This is a long post and English is not my first language, so it may have some mistakes, sorry...



First take a look at the first Team Fortress 2 trailer

Here is my analysis:
This trailer shows the game itself, one map, and the characters of the game. Nothing bad, these are the essential items for a promotion trailer. BUT it still to weak, it doesnt make the gamer buy this game. So the marketing team noticed that and they starded doing a diferent way of how to present the game to the world. You can see this watching the other trailers showing the characters separately and wich one with his own personality.

NOW these trailers wake up the will of buying this game, because now we can see fun, action and unique game-play.


The same was made with Battlefield: Bad Company, a few trailers showing the game, but with a lot of fun and in the case of BF:BC with some parodys. Take a look:

So, basically my suggestion is learn with these guys what they have done to promote their games. Insted of releasing a big teaser trailer before the 0.8 launch, the R-PUB team or whoever works with this in the mod team could do many and short videos showing what is to be come in the next version.


I have many ideas in mind of what to show and how to show them in a video (based in what was already showed to the public), but before talking about it here, I want first know the opinions of the PR community about this suggestion.


Video ideas:

1. Will the BHD map be in the next version ? If yes, there could be a short video showing soldiers moving to the helicopter, some landing at the buildings and streets and them the enemy moving and prepering for combat and them, at the end, the BH being shot down and finally the PR anuncement.

2. Muttrah City v2.0, scenes of both side of soldiers preparing for the combat, the mec team moving trought the city and the americans getting in the helicopters. Then the air transported invasion over the city. We could do it in two different ways: One is doing it similar to Call of Duty 4 or doing it like that Vietnam movie, where the Red Baron song plays at the helicopter invasion. The video stops when the americans land at the port or in the city and then video shows the PR dog-tag symbol.

3.Operation Barracuda. Saving Private Ryan maybe ?

I liked the Jearhead movie, but I think it wont fit anywhere in PR.

I like the idea, but it's the animations that really sell it for BC and TF2 IMO.

I think humor is a good factor too. Those B-Company ads always made me laugh. I can imagine the Pilot kit comedy video now. Pilot's talking about his job, then comments on some newbie crashing the jet, camera cuts to the soon-to-be-wreck.

Perhaps focus it on introducing a new vehicle/weapon (Or in a broader sense, a new faction) with a comedy aspect to it.

Though, I still think one badass, awesome trailer like 0.5s would be most welcome.

Exactly ! The same was done once with the Cobra and that famous video of showing the afeghan insurgent farmers, but it was removed from youtube...

I don't think we should promote any more. We'll only invite more "You know whats" [Ie WuMz] to the mod... and gameplay will deteriorate from there.

I thought of this recently and maybe for the trailer, it should be a remake of the 0.5 trailer. Have the same music and have different scenes of the new gameplay, maps, weapons, like the same as 0.5. Although it won't be any special since it's just based on 0.5's trailer.
