The Introduction To End All Introductions

Post by Shiznit42 »

'Ello mates. I've been playing project Reality for about a week now and finally decided to join the forums. Even though I don't like to admit it, I suck at PR. I don't think I've ever won a firefight except for one.... and I was in a heli.... with a mini-gun

Anyways I may or may not be looking to join a clan that would except me and one that I can learn from.

Well see you around the forums.

welcome

i'm pretty new to PR myself, and at first you do get killed alot, by random stuff.

just find a good squad with VOIP and if all else fails just sit there and ask what people want you to do, i find that if my shootings not up to speed on the day i can go medic, die alot and not kill alot, but keep the people alive that are doing the killing

nevertheless just have fun!

@OP, if you are NA, i can invite you to play with my over Xfire, that way you learn to play PR correctly and effeciantly.

Trust me, at first you will die allot, however once you learn to stay alive it will be better. :)

You'll die in Project Reality at least once even if you are a seasoned player. It just happens.

Advice:

-Don't run ahead without scanning the area first with binocs or scope (if you have one). There could be hostiles you're not aware of until you see them behind that trash can.

-Find a kit you're good at. Be it the Anti-Tank guy or ammo supply, you can find something you'll enjoy and is helpful for the team. You'll have to sacrifice what you're good at if your squadleader asks you to choose a certain kit, but be sure to inform them what you're good at.

-Information is key on the field. If you saw three enemy soldiers moving about, tell your team, and the compass bearing (little white thing on the bottom of your screen). Fire away unless the squad asks you not to. Even if you don't hit the enemy, you can still suppress them with shots near them. :)

Think... then think some more... dont do the expected, retreat, flank, use smoke, use grenades, run for cover, dont try and engage an enemy if they get the 1st shot in, retreat, run zig zags, retreat some more, listen to your squad leader and be very nice to your medic... and one day you might get through a round without dieing as a grunt!

Good luck... you wont be a pr pro over night. Expect to be a wiping boy for a few months yet!.. but enjoy it.

Welcome to the chaos.

Also remember to hit the target, helps alot.

Welcome mate, great to have some fresh meat, no worries all blew the pr *beep* at the start. Mostly because you have to get away with that vanilla cloud above your head, but you'll get into it after some decent games.

Suddently your brain activates and says: "Maybe that angle will be more efficient - Maybe I should hold fire till I get a clearer shot - Perhaps I should knife him and take the others out after that."

As Madtommy clarified, the strongest weapon you got, is your mind.

If you are new, here is a plan for you:

1) Read carefully the manual, you gonna have the 80% of knowledge from there

2) Don't follow suggestion from some PR forum members to ask the SL ingame via VOIP what to do, you will be considered such an annoying **** everybody want to mute.

3) Just try to be in orginised squad and try to do what SL tells to do. Basically what you need to do as squad member is to report any enemy movements (giving berings or may be telling his location) and if you are tasked by SL to do something particular report to him how your things are going in making particular objective done.

Tips I find useful:

Use VOIP. This is absolutely REQUIRED if you want to be fully successful in PR.
Listen to orders! If you tell your SL 'no, imma do it my way', not only is he fully entitled to kick you from his squad, but if he doesn't, you're just pissing off your squad, as they're missing a valuable component.
Stay out of jets. Don't ask why. Just don't get in them.
Suppressive fire is your best friend, and worst enemy.
Kill wumwutts....well actually, just avoid him entirely.
Oh, the most important one: READ THE MANUAL! Rather than going around asking people ingame how to do every little thing, it'd have been so much easier to read the damn manual, instead of expecting your teammates to babysit you through everything. They've got a battle to fight.

Im not saying you don't need to ask something at all. I was just mentioning that you rather read the manual than asking everything in VOIP. Yeah, it's almost impossible to get all from manual, so some things you didn't understand you can ask.
Well, now I know who's squad not to join.
I'll put it in my carebox.

If you say you are bad at fire fights, you could try to get them in some sort of ambush. Elemental of surprise is the key. As you can land the first few bullets at him while he has to find out what the hell is hitting him. Always shoot trough your scope/ironsight. Always use single shot, unless the guy you are hitting is standing 2 steps away from you.
The lower you get, the more accuracy you will get. Always go atleast crouch to shoot. It will also make you a smaller object to hit.

My last words, practice. Play a lot. Experiment with play styles. And you will get the hang of it pretty good.

what?!

Most people won;t mind giving you a hand, depends on if you find a good SL (getting rarer than commanders these days, which is not surprising given some of the grief I've had back trying to get people to do stuff). But once you've learnt the basics, it gets easier. Start out with the scoped rifleman kit, it'll see you through most maps and its "special" ability is easy to use (and underused) giving you less of a responsibility. Once you've gotten the hang of things, start a training mode LAN server and play with some of the more exotic kits, took me ages to figure out how HAT worked properly (not advisible to misuse it or to be a beginner with it on valuable rounds e.g. Qwai as USMC) Onwards and upwards, oh and second the moetion to keep out of jets, they look cool, difficult to fly with a keyboard, some are almost impossible to land.

Have fun!
