Just make carpet bombing map specific. Kashan and Qinling are both plenty big enough to allow for carpet bombing. I can just see the commander carpet bombing the bunker complex so his forces can move in with minimal resistance, so it would have uses. The smaller maps deffinently wouldn't need it, though.

exactly, make carpet bombing a map specific thing. maps like kashan could have it, but not maps like qwai and ejod.

Many nations no longer maintain conventional bomber forces, with the advent of multi role aircraft and precision munitions the days of carpet bombing have passed.

Why drop 150 750lb bombs in a trail of destruction a mile and a half long by a mile wide to destroy a target, when 1 smart bomb can do the same job, with less risk of collateral damage, a higher chance of sucess and a signficantly lower cost.

Now have a bomber like the B52 loaded to the gills with 500lb JDAMs and ground teams to mark targets for them and suddenly you've got a long range, long lingering flying battery of doom that can provide support quickly, precisely and effectivly.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Its a good idea but I kinda think it would be abused as a uncap attack. Of corse this depends on server rules, but the whole "Area Attack" idea means your not going for one single thing, but rather multiple, in a high concentration. I think it would be dropped on Uncaps (Kash or Qin) more then actually used effectively on the field. It illustrates the use of the JDAM now in-game, like a finisher of rounds :P

I like the idea though

that would be cool another thing to add would be a burst from a C-130 gunships 25mm auto cannon things, or a few rounds of its 40mm or a simple 105 shell
