Ok Well I need help with a few things.
1. How do you make those bridge tower at the top of the communications tower here and the ladder offworldmod.com :: View topic - HollowIchigoBanki's static models
Also how do people make something like this? http://fc06.deviantart.com/fs32/i/2008/190/0/f/Japanese_summer_tea_house_by_HollowIchigoBanki.jpg
2. Ok I asked a similar question on the Game art forum about how to make an indent in an object or a hole in an object but he said you shouldn't use boolean, why shouldn't I and how can I make a hole in an object aswell as something like this http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/1531/standardqp2.jpg

I reckon you need more advanced software to do this.

Re: [Question] 3ds Questions about making indents, holes and cages
Tesher I would make the metal bit of the control tower by using thin boxes for each beam, making a small part of one side, then cloning it and attaching it all together to get the complete structure. The ladder would be made the same way. Use a box for each rung and two long boxes for the sides. I wouldnt cut out holes in this case, tho maybe I've been doing it wrong?
Likewise his shack probably isnt made by cutting the space out of a single box to get the holes, but using lots of small boxes to make the wood beams. With statics like you have described, editable poly, vertex tool, cloning and the mirror modifier are your friends. With repetitive statics (like ladders) the more copy and paste you can do the better
As for the boolean bit, sometimes it is the best tool to use, but often in low poly modelling it makes your model messy. A cleaner way of doing what you wanted on the rifle would be to connect up some edges where you want the bulge to start, then put some more in for the curve of the bulge then pull the whole thing out. This keeps the mesh clean and gives the lowest possible polycount, whereas boolean will sometimes put in lots of weird unnecessary polygons. Useful things when working with edges are the selection tools in the right hand panel. Select an edge, then select ring or loop. You will see what they do. These two tools make working a lot faster.
Hope that helps.

I see you refer to hollow's stuff (another offworld dev).. he is into much of the same style as me when it comes to modeling.. making stuff from single objects by using cut, extruding/beveling and bridge its so simple to make sophisticated looking models only using this and some vertex adjusting..

Ok well when you make seperate parts for the model and put it together do you boolean it together or just use attach?

=) Well I just made a prop. pretty basic but I like it.

Is it good?
Poly-137
Verts-152
