squad tactics
one major problem I've found, most noticable as SL, is squad seperation. This is different than spacing. This is when a SM or SMs think that they know all and go off ahead or on there own to kill an enemy or cap a point etc. STOP! Follow the SL at all times, while moving somewhere or whatever. The SL knows all, and if you got a problem with the SL find a new squad. And if this is just the way you play, well then PR isn't for you, unless your a sniper. In which case you should be in your own locked squad. Save the lone sharking **** for vanilla or CoD4, this is a tactical game. ask for permission to move somewhere. And another thing, when the SL tells you to get to his position, or take up a position somewhere, that means ASAP. Not when you feel like it. There are factors (enemy fire) that may hinder you but still, try to get there.
Please del free to comment on this or other squad tactics/problems. Thanks

Re: squad tactics
you got my vote 2, but only if the SL knows what he is doing. There are alot of "stupid" SL out there...
- without VOIP
- without a tactic
- without commo with the commander
and so on.
I dont follow my SL to death when he runs stupid around or trys to capture a flag witch cant get captured @ this moment...

ok thanks for the random rabble goreziad...
it always helps to have a friend in the same squad as you to sort of help mamage everything, like a fireteam leader or something. as long as that person is working directly with the SL. ive had this happen a few times before and its very helpful.

Come to me guys, that means you *insert name of n00blet*, head East mate, East mate, not West, East. Seriously if you don't start heading East or give my a good reason you are heading west apart from "I want the sniper rifle" then I will kick you from the squad.
30seconds later
"last chance"
kick from squad
When I want to TeamWork get out of my way

Re: squad tactics
i just read some great tips on being an SL in the tactics section of the forum. and one point came up a few times. dont be afraid to kick those in your squad who are dragging you down. also, use the markers effectivly. attack markers should mark enemy positions, noty points to cap, cause those points are already marked on the map for you. use the move marker alot, for anything from "move here" to "rally on the marker." and remember to have fun, if the squad is having fun, you will do much better, and people will want to join your squad.

Re: squad tactics
I have found, as a squaddie and a newbie to PR in general (I know very little about the maps so far) that if I can get in a squad with a good SL and at least one (preferably two)good, communitive lead trooper(s) then I have no problem following orders to the best of my current noobie abilities.
Now to just play more and find a SL that does not run headlong into killzones....

Re: squad tactics
haha! I had a good run as squad leader today. Only to be disconnected! I feel so bad for my squad when this happens. Happend to me a few times already. And odd-enough only when I was commander and squadleader.
But I learned today ( probably already mentioned here ) that putting markers every few seconds keeps the squad members with no mic close to you. I also feel that instead of ordering, asking goes a long way.

Re: squad tactics
markers are key to any good squad. My connection has cut out a lot as well. A few times as SL, and once while I was in fuzzhead squad /cry. I have a pretty bad connection, but I can still play without too much lag.

Wise words as always, but unfortunately all the people with tactical sense have the common sense to browse these forums!
The people we're talking about just 'play the game' and don't get involved in the community here

Re: squad tactics
i find that using markers, and good insquad comms are key issues. but the squads are only as good as its members. if you join a squad, be prepeared to do what is asked. it is ok to disagree, make a suggestion, but the final word is up to the SL. if you do not wish to be lead, make your own squad.

Re: squad tactics
Probably more advisable to make the squad leader walk 4th in a formation tbh, pretty much in the middle, protected by all, with the medic behind (but not at the back because if ambushed and the medic goes down, bye bye squad)
So for example:
Auto Rifleman < Rifleman < Rifleman < Officer < Medic < Rifleman
So for example:
Auto Rifleman < Rifleman < Rifleman < Officer < Medic < Rifleman

Re: squad tactics
That wont work with me. I want to lead the way and show them where we need to go. With the move markers it goes to slow. If you want to sprint around the flank in a fast move to put a rally down and flank the enemy defense speed is the key!
I agree with you on regular assaults and patrol duty though.

Re: squad tactics
this is the formation and kits that i try to get in my squads when i lead based on the british army section attacks though with less men and more diverse kits
Rifleman (scout) < Officer < Automatic Rifleman < Medic < rifleman AT < rifleman
rarely happens though, no matter how much you ask

Had that sort of setup last night on T&T running with Cain. You just need a good squad and you can work miracles. If people don't follow orders, boot 'em.Sars99 wrote:this is the formation and kits that i try to get in my squads when i lead based on the british army section attacks though with less men and more diverse kits

Re: squad tactics
It is depressing how only the good SLs and SMs look at these posts, but maybe it will inspire some of them to step up and be an SL, or current SLs will get better ideas.
I guess the only real way to get a good squad is to boot those who arent following orders, and the rest will either get the point or be booted/leave themselves.
