tips to run PR better

i have 1 gig Ram and nvidia 6200

it usually runs ok
but then it will randomally stop, turn black, then go back to the gameplay or main screen

does it turn black etc after a while (i.e. when t gets hot) or just randomly?

I had the same problem with my 7600GS. It didn't always crash but everything except statics would disappear. I fixed it with another gig of RAM and now it runs a solid 40-60FPS on most maps.

It's amazing what a little RAM will do your OS may be taking most of the RAM, and not leaving enough for things in the game to happen. Newegg.com would be the way to go, just read up on some of the guides they have and you will be a RAM master in no time. RAM is also very cheap these days.

Yea it nuts! My macbook seems to choke up some times when I play PR. I got a macbook pro 2.5 ghz with 4 gig of ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB on it. I play on the windows account btw

But what I get is periodic slow-downs when the sound goes in slowmotion with a weird metalic sound in it ( like in the matrix when Neo gets that mirror fluid over him ) and the game plays slow as well. Sometimes I even get a disconnect. Could it be the server or is it machine side? Ill check out the links posted here tomorrow and see what I can do to my machine to speed it up. But I was kinda hoping my machine could play this with settings on high without a problem.

Packet loss does influence performance, probably because more CPU is allocated to motion prediction. I normally get 100 FPS and it slows down to 60 when there are more players in my vicinity. Sound is not the issue I've tested. The only thing left is the network.

I've tried to change the max pre-rendered frames to 8 and enabled triple buffering and it seems to run smoother.

Ohh dude dude dude, unless you want your pc to burn down like mine I recommend at least 2Gb ram, and better than a 7300 geforce.

Also you can enhance your PC perfomance but it will give a greater risk for overcloak which will eventually say BAM! your pc is done

PR is very extreme for a pc, due to all the new stuff/large maps and such.

RAM isn't too expensive, I got 4gig of Corsair-whatever-it-was DDR2 RAM and with cost next to nothing considering. Makes a drastic improvement, for the price you pay you may as well 4 gig instead of another 1. Also seems to make that bloody loading screen not be in your face for as long, takes me half the time to load into games now.

Well if your on XP 4 gigs of ram is useless. I got 4 gigs in my machine but when Im on windows it only sees 2.9 gigs or 3.2

No, that is a perfectly normal behavior related to the Macbook Pro and mobile graphics. Mac's are pretty thin notebooks (one of the thinnest multimedia laptops) and the cooling is very limited, because of the size. So the sudden freeze accompanied by the repeating game sounds leading to a slowdown in game performance is simply your graphics card overheating and down-clocking itself. What you can do is buy yourself a laptop cooling pad or just move into a room with cooler temperature to ease the heat stress on your notebook. Also if you have read the news you'd be aware that Nvidia has recently announced that their older early 8 series cards are defective. It seems the core on the chips heat up too quick which isn’t healthy on the age of the graphics card. So as a fix Nvidia is going to release a driver through the notebook manufacturer which will speed up the fan to accommodate for the excessive heat produced.

Oh wauw! Thanks for the info! So I think its getting a notebook cooling pad for me than! As it does get heated up a lot and the fan speed does not seem to go up as needed I usualy put it on the highest speed manually!
Ill keep my eye out for that driver!

(I'll be upgrading soon)
And I've never had any issue like this nor have I had it triggered by overheating

overheating is only an issue if my mac has been running games for over an hour and stays in the same place. if my mac overheats the computer just crashes
so all I have to do is move it to another surface to prevent the heat from radiating back to the mac, besides mac pro is covered in aluminum which radiates heat much better through passive cooling

assuming your computer is virus and spyware free
my premature diagnosis:
what you describe may be a virus scan program which periodically check stuff and can REALLY slow a game down so look into this.

That's because the ATi mobility cards don't underclock themselves. Also the X1600 does not produce as much heat as the newer generation Nvidia 8 series cards. The same can be said about the previous Geforce 7 series cards which wouldn’t even reach 80c while gaming. In fact I have an ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 in one of my laptops and haven’t had such problems with it, but recently I purchased a new ASUS notebook with a Geforce 9500M GS which is slightly faster than the 8600M GT and I’ve faced the same automatic underclock problem as cyberzomby. The Mac’s 8600M GT is equipped with DDR3 memory which runs very cool, but as I stated before this is mainly a design flaw with the 8600M GT’s core heating up too much along with the thin body of the Macbook Pro.

cyberzomby vist nVision -> Release 177 drivers and update your graphics drivers, that might help.

Also download GPU-Z and monitor your temperature when this happens.
