Some Medic/Infantry suggestions

Post by darkwarrior666 »

Decided to compile my thoughts on the subject and let you guys know.

(as a side note...I searched, and my last topic regarding Jeeps drivable by all is not a listed repost...may want to fix that, whoever has mod access :) )

Anyway, Medic stuff.

1: Remove the First Aid Kit, or make it a drop only, similar to the Rifleman's Ammo bag. Combat medics aren't exactly surgeons, they aren't gonna remove a bullet from you in the middle of battle. At best, they can put a bandage over you and you can hold out until you get extracted. Making the FAK into a prolonged healing item, similar to the Ammo bag, or merely a stronger 'bandage'(in which case the medic would have 2 bags), it would still be better then the whole being able to restore health completely thing. Also, this brings me to my next suggestion:

2: Remove field dressings from all classes except Officer and Medic. Officers can keep the payout they have right now...Medics should get like 10 of these things. This will make squad Medics more of a necessity than a 'bonus'. Besides, if you were to get shot in the arm, do you think you could patch yourself up, dealing with not only the pain, but the fact that you only have one arm to work with? I doubt it. Hence why the trained Medic would do it.

3: Defilibrators need to go. When you get shot, you don't have a heart attack or go into cardiac arrest. What's more likely, is shock, tbh. I suggest replacing them with a syringe. What's in it...I'll leave that open to suggestion. Depressants? Anti-Depressants? Pain-killers? You be the judge. But getting jolted back on your feet seems...unrealistic, in a sense. Whereas getting an instant injection to keep you going for just that little while longer would be a bit more feasable.

Apologies if any of this has been suggested already, but I swear there's too many jumbled Medic suggestions out there, so I figured I'd post what I thought would be good and let you have it.

I think in the syringe it would probably be morphine, followed by adrenaline? Also 1 and 3 been suggested before, 2 not, i think it could actually be quite a good idea!

medics will recieve a very thorughall makeover in v0.8

you can already read about some of the changes in the dev journal, but there are other new changes that are exciting too.

Trust me, medics will be a VITAL element to a squad in v0.8.

Dropping an ammo bag would be to vanillaish..

Combat Medics would have to fix up a downed soldier not the soldier fixing up him self..

drop only = bad, no increase in realism here. What you want is a great animation etc, but that would be incredibly complex for aesthetics, I would like to have to extract wounded etc, but it wouldn't work on 16 player sized maps

IRL soldiers get one dressing each, protocol is that the medic would come over and use the soldiers own dressing to bind the wound, having 1 dressing per soldier ingame reflects this. I would like the way dressings affect the character should be different, but i can't see a way of changing them to be more realistic and unforgiving

I'm really not sure you searched hard enough, but I would prefer we had the EoD morphine tab

A medic will probably be more likely to get you into a safe position, yank that bullet out and patch you up, probably injecting you with a painkiller. A first aid kit you could drop would make medic pretty much a 1-use kit, as you could probably only patch up one guy.

Okay, and then you would bleed to death before getting patched up proper. Field dressings are given to EVERY soldier in conventional armies. Field dressing (yes, it's wiki, I know. It still has a point)

A good point, suggested before, but that is probably a low priority. We know, magic heart-attack inducing bullets are a vanilla carryover. But with (from what I know) only one active animator for the PR team, we should make it a lower priority update. Let's get the more vital animations done first, then aesthetics.

Please no. Having these field dressings allows the medic to prioritise people e.g. Squad member A goes black and white so medic goes to him first while the other members of squad use their field dressings to hold on while the medic finishes with Squad member A.

Thats because there are no "jeeps" in PR.

I disagree. It is commonplace for all infantry (US anyway) to carry a wound dressing. Some even have kerlix.

Good to hear medics will become more important! Almost anytime I join a VOIP squad or any other squad I gotta take on the medic role. And thats not even when I join a fresh game! I dont mind being medic but not for my entire PR carreer ;) I like giving covering fire with an AR as well ;)
