Thinking about it I don't think they can, tear gas is on the "not to be used" list like rubber bullets and water cannons. Good how civilian forces can use them though eh and the military is stuck to the more "humaine" HE-FRAG?
There are 37mm, multi-shot anti-riot grenade launchers, but this isn't one of them. It fires the same 40mm low velocity (40 x 46mm), spin-stabilized grenades of the M203/M79 and other NATO underslung and individual launchers. One Marine said he would like to use it with buckshot rounds. HEDP (high explosive, dual purpose) is the standard load, these days, but the 40mm is a multipurpose weapon, like the shotgun, capable of firing pyrotechnic (smoke and illumination) and less-lethal ammunition (CS, "sponge" or "beanbag" rounds). And at that rate of fire- ouch. CS gas is permitted depending on established rules of engagement. Right now, the Marine infantry battalions are fielding them as an experimental weapon, and they're considering the possibilities of returning to a dedicated grenadier within a fire-team, back when he had a sidearm and an M79 "blooper," instead of an M16 with an underslung M203.

It is interesting to note that the M79 is still being used over in Iraq for standoff disruption of suspected roadside IEDs and other tasks.

^ Really? I never seen it. We always used a .50 cal or the Mark 19 off of the RWS (remote weapon system). Wish I could have had the chance to use an M79. Got to see one used in Basic and thought it was kick ***. The M203 sometimes seems like a hassle. But it's nice to know that your not just stuck with a 40mm launcher in close quarters battle. So i'm not sure how well the M79 would work today.

the optic sight looks a bit useless, if it works like an M203 it works mostly on ark so at any distance you wont see what ever it is your shooting at.

I give you credit for using the Mr.T smiley, first time i seen it used on these forums :p

That Mk.47 would be a nice addition as well, I can imagine seeing that be an emplaced weapon used to defend a flag or main base.

If you look at the side of the optic, you can see it's a quadrant sight. I'd much rather have the leaf sight, but that's just personal preference.

Some people wonder if they have made a difference in this world. Marines don't have that problem

POE is including the XM312 which is a 50cal mg to keep the military happy until they can get the real prize into production - the xm307 25 mm air bursting grenande machine gun (abgmg? or abg gmg?) - seen the thing on (what was it, history channel or military/discovery?) future guns and how the xm307 will have a kill effectiveness with ONE can of ammo compared to what an M2 or any other mg would take like 5 or 8 ammo cans
