[Help] Map Editor & Vista

Post by Harrod200 »

Is it possible to run the v3 editor under vista? It installs fine in compatability mode, but the editor itself complains about DX when I try to run it...

Well, as it's a crappy OS it's quite right to complain, but I don't fancy reformatting just to tinker. I could probably run it under VMWare if it NEEDS XP, but that's more hassle if there's a way to make it work properly.

The dx warnings in red are quite normal I think ( i get them on my xp comp ) - will the editor not run or are they just warnings?
If youre using dx10 then I could imagine that could cause problems as well, and also I had problems using the latest drivers on my gfx card, but when I used a driver from mid 2007 it sorted it.
The safest bet is to partition you hd with xp and run it there.

You probably got dx10 and it doesnt know wtf it is. I dont think you can roll back the dx version either ( might be wrong though )
Looks like a xp partition is the way forward - at least you know it will ( kind of ) work on that! Have fun

And Run as Administrator. Go the extra mile and Disable Desktop Composition for extra memory. It can be a bit of a hog. I can run the Editor fine using Vista Home Prem. 32-bit SP 2.

same for vista, also when you get to making a new terrain, the editor will crash at the end of it, but will save the flat terrain for you. Also, does anyone get the following? Everytime i close Bf2 editor for some reason or another, it crashes rather than closes, lea\ving me with a dump file, everything seems to be normal in spite of this, just wondering if it's a vista feature...

I would seriously go with the xp partition idea. Its a bit more hastle to set up at the beginning, if you need to partition etc, but at least then you know it will work. Also its not only the editor you need to consider, Its the other programs like tpaint, and also I couldnt get Rhinos map build script to work under vista ( although this may have been due to other reasons due to circumstances )
