Public Gameplay CO
Lately I played often as CO.
But the big problem I have with that function is that simply the squads dont do what I tell them to do.
And no, it is not just the noob squads with no officer kit etc.
The clan squads and the engvoip squads and all the squads which names say "We are teamworking", they may teamwork. But only on a squad base level.
No one defends, no one doest what the CO tells them to do.
No one respects the CO function at all. It is just the guy that has to be there, when my squad loses the RP and need FB now, or the guy that calls in the JDAM on MY TARGET on dare CO if you target somewhere else.
I think in 0.8 the CO will disappear completly because then the SLs can deploy FB themselves.
Thats very sad imo.
I hope I can reach some SLs to follow their COs if they make any sense!
I also started a thread to gather all trusted CO's names on a list, just like the too long player recommendation thread.

Yep that happens alot but there is an occasional squad that will cover the weakest point of a team or map.they may teamwork. But only on a squad base level.
I agree with you about the CO, its only in organised games that orders and a plan is followed from what Ive seen. Tournament games are completely different to public because of this usually
I think its hard coded that the CO cant directly effect other players. He is able to take away a firebase but thats about it for control, I suggest this is extended to lesser assets like barb wire and the 50 cal if possible and possibly rally points?

Well, yes.
The exp of this version already shows me that I am right. How often did you enter a public game where a CO is in charge and doing useful stuff?

Well when I make a squad, I'll always follow commander orders, so hope I will play with you sometime
Even as a squad leader, when squad leader informs me that the order that just got commanded is from the commander, I always think that THAT order has to be done perfectly and quickly.
And still need CO for CAS and JDAM

I noticed this too. Sadly the worst thing i hate is when you have a great plan, and a few squads listen, and you need other squads to help out the first squad, but the other squads don't listen. =D This is why i liked T&T servers. You either listen, or you get kicked. =D Makes it very very black and white.
I'm not for kicking people for having better judgement, but sadly with the way players are hard coded... i'd have to say T&T (when it's up) is one of my favorite servers because of the entire "If you act like a vanilla player you're gone" mentality.
Hopefully we can find someway to get people to listen to the CO more....
or at least get some kind of CO training. I understand people have went with the entire "We need training servers" thing, but really we do. Not everyone knows how to say something, and we should teach them the radio shortcuts and everything. I mean we had that guide that showed us that "over and out" was just hollywood bullcrap, but we need some kind of training server that gives people a true ingame experience. =D
I'll go into greater detail somewhere else xD

Indeed mr Huntermed, if ever you're on T&T let us know about squads not following orders and they'll be gone, Love that rule
problems lie with bad SLs, especially those who complain "my squads ****" "they dont listen" etc etc you've gta crack those 5 sons of ******* in a line and when he says hes going to or just takes a sniper kit tell him to get something else because he is a pointless individual at that time, tell him he will be your medic, no arguements those are the orders. In return I guarentee one of the most kickass rounds ever cos you'll be using a kit and using it properly cos that'll be your kit for the rest of the round
I have been known to make some really shit pubbies "parade" by lining up in front of me in formation and correct order, if they cant even do that then we dont go anywhere lol
Do you make each SL Report in? sometimes a bit of discipline shocks folk and if you have a joke at the same time then you're not being an ******* about it.
Wow look at me ramble, I am the ramble pro
Tactics & Teamwork :: "Like Minded Gaming"
Play on the server, Tactics and Teamwork, ALWAYS in need of good commanders because I looove following orders and imposing that will on others

Re: Public Gameplay CO
i think to get the commander needs to be made into a more important role. he needs to know things that the squad learder doesnt so that people have a reason to follow his orders.
perhaps giving the commander back his satalite feed that shows troops moving around on the battlefield from above. but maybe make it a asset that squad leaders deploy and the ask the commander to take a look at their area and when the commander looks over their area the squad leader breaks down the deplowed asset so another squad mite use it or just give it a time limit. and if that object gets destroyed then it will be given a jdam like respawn.
i think something like that would make a commander more useful if it could be coded.

I know that some servers have a "Follow the CO/SL orders" rule that if not followed, they will be removed. I know that the TG server has that rule...I think that T&T does too, I am not sure.

I go Commander reasonably often, and you do get a lot of shit from some squads if your orders are unpopular but essential. SL's see the battle from their current objective, you see the big picture. The "DO AS YOU'RE TOLD" rule on T&T is a good one because you can enforce your orders. Nothin quite like pulling a round back from the brink though by making a decision and having the minions follow it through.

I command as much as I'm a grunt... I like grunt-work more, but I command when there isn't a commander and it seems like the team is losing. a good portion of the time the team gets back up and loses with a bit of face...
Com. is only for Firebases, markers, and relaying information... everything else can be achieved SL to SL by typing. Me, I get out there (really far away from everybody) and spot for an hour-and-a-half, when I'm not transporting people in the Com. Truck.
Unfortunately, like in vBF2, no one defends any points at all... when I SL (maybe once or twice since I took up PR at the .7 Release) I turn it into dedicated defense.
usually saying "Please" and "Thanks," or otherwise being nice to people gets you results (at least where I play... something like...
"Uh... squad 5, squad 3 is pinned down by a tank... could you take the H-AT you have and blow it up for them, please?"
"Sure."
"Thank you. *talks to 3* Squad 3 be prepared, squad 5 is taking out that tank for you"
...works fine enough for me... but it could be that all I do is spot for people and generally tell them to do what they're doing, but a better location to do it in.)
Other than that, I leave people alone. No sense in yelling in people's ears... I type more often than I talk. I only talk when people talk to me, and even then only as requests. for other squads.

best way to command, give people jobs they like, squad name is armor dont give them inf jobs. Its easy once you get to understand tactics. people see on the map the team surrounding a flag they see the plan. Its better in formal matches tell your SL"s to look at map and give them the plan right out. Mostly they work. And if you be nice build stuff and organize the team you will be a successful Commander.

Re: Public Gameplay CO
Commanders should listen to SLs more often tho. Sometimes when im the SL and the commander gives me some really weird orders without giving me any good reason, i will not folow orders.
Such as if my squad is in between mine and gov's office on Qwai, we have gov's capped, there are 2-3 squads in there, we have a jeep/APC/something fast, and the commander still wants me to defend Govs coz "Other squads are going for mine". In such case i will refuse and send my squad for the mine flag so we wont let the enemy team prepare any decent defence there.

Then you're part of the problem, sometimes a CO doesn't have time to spell it out for each individual squad leader, he needs to get things going and he needs them going now. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I've had the problem of Squad Leaders who didn't have the whole picture think they knew better than the guy watching the map and speaking to all of them. SLs need to figure out that the Commander Commands, he's not there to look pretty with his nice blue star, he's there to form a cohesive battle plan and you either need to follow his orders or get the hell out of the way. I love commanding, but only when I know the team I'll be commanding will follow my orders.Waaah_Wah wrote:Commanders should listen to SLs more often tho. ^^Yeah, but sometimes commanders seem to give reeally weird orders, such as telling you to defend when your in a much better position to attack, than the squad that just capped the enemy flag. They already know wtf is going on in that area and should stay there imo.

It's just what happens when you get people from the internets. Not many people have the real military know-how to enact what your ideal vision of the game is my friend. You can't expect a 14 year old nerd to act with military bearing and precision.

i follow orders but do not reduce the squads power to much nor give them to much, give them the ability to ask for firebase and other, but also ask for another build order for the .50, dont take to much away becuase there are noob commanders who dont talk to the squads and dose his own thing...

Re: Public Gameplay CO
When Im squad leader and I see theres a flag that needs defending Ill tell them to defend. I dont mind. Usually youll get quite a battle there as well because the enemy wants the flag too remember!
And what Enderjmu says is right as well. I squadlead and command that way and it works very well. Were all here to have fun. Theres no fun in a 15 yr old yelling at you to defend that objective. If I get asked nicely ill listen.
Havent played that much on Tactics And Teamwork. Can say Tactical Gamer is good for the same reasons. Almost constant admin support like on T&T. So if theres no T&T online go there.
I think the CO needs some more interesting gameplay parts to make it more fun. If there arent enough VOIP squads I dont want to command because than its going to be a looong game. If there where more interesting things to do than I'd hapily take commander role more often.

Re: Public Gameplay CO
Yeah but maybe the other squad has the better kit-layout for attacking, or your kit-layout is better for defending this position? Or maybe the commander just knows from this round that the attacking squad is pretty good at taking a position but not as good in holding it.Waaah_Wah wrote:^^Yeah, but sometimes commanders seem to give reeally weird orders, such as telling you to defend when your in a much better position to attack, than the squad that just capped the enemy flag. As a commander I usually try to combine the kits and vehicles to a combination I think is most effective for this task. And when I have to order a squad back over half of the map i'll do so. The problem is, they hardly ever listen, and then the whole plan gets crashed and we have a hard time winning the round. Maybe just trust the guy with the nice star a little bit );

Re: Public Gameplay CO
i know we cant do this but if we could have had the VOIP in the command com let the commander and squad leads all talk together.
but i mostly play as a SL in a 2 tank squad. i make my squad members get the kits i need them to use or i kick them. i also kick them if they don't have a mic.
or is i run a fire team i set it up as
1SL
1support kit
1medi kit
1rifle men/at kit as needed
2rifle men
but i do find it hard if i don't have a commander or one that does not do his job. and more then 1/2 of the time i end up on the team that will not work together there all fighting over the jets or helo. its not fun being the only squad out of the spawn fighting!
we all the people that are squad leaders and commander use Xfire's VOIP so we all can talk and know whats going on. for me and my clan members if we spit up in to 2 or more squads we use the Xfire so we can use our squads as an better unit.
