This tactic i figured out after I played a war veteran in a large pile of rubble on the map al basra. Then i saw a british squad with five players in it move after each other on a line just to my left. I threw a greande in and killed two guys with it (supressing the others) then I ran behind them and opened fire with my ak-47 killing the three others. If they had used the sweep tactic they would probably blow me up first, or maybe I could get one of them before I got killed. This tactic is also recommended in jungles and forests.
This picture shows an attack similar to what I experinced. As you might see it doesent require many guys to pick down a squad moving like this.
This picture shows the sweep tactic as it should be done. As you might see this attack by the blue guys would probably be succesful (only one or two blue guys have a bigger probabilety of getting killed)

Re: Sweeping tactic
Tis a formation you refer to can be Known simply as a line... Not to be confused with a column which is the ol' single file Duckling march of Death... Problem with this one is there is minimal side protection so is better to bow back a bit on the sides to make a spearhead.... or even move them forth to create a blunt wedge... I'm babbling now, Good to see more folks willing to put this kinda stuff into play, Join a Tacteam squad on Tactics and Teamwork as we often put formations like this and other such stuff into play

Re: Sweeping tactic
Or it is simply known as the Extended Line, this is good for clearing, but there is little fire and maneuver as you have to stay together to make sure you have all the fire support available. You are also extremely enfiladed from the flanks to machine guns, you are lined up perfectly with them. Formation is golden for clearing whilst not in contact, but a little sketchy while in contact.

Only good for frontal treat.
Column formation can be good for side treat.

Re: Sweeping tactic
testing my new alias and sigs, sorry.
Well, while im here like a cog in your gears
I may as well interject something.
Strait formation will never be useful for anyone except the enemy. Meaning, when the enemy see your strait formation they can get a body count and track your direction. I will not say anything else because my personal opinions on tactics are private between my clan
