Only arty when asked for?

Post by Campez »

Hey i was sitting thinkin about if you could make it the way so the commander could only start an artillery strike if a squad leader asked for it? i would incourage teamplay between the commander and the squad even more :)

there is very limited control over the commander assets... kinda sucks but even something as simple as arty reload times and barrage duration times are not editable.

I would like to have them behave like mortars in terms of rate of fire and damge, but last for 3 or 4 minutes and only be available every 20 minutes or so.

But that's not possible, so we will likely make it so that arty is only available by squad leader request.

Should supplies work like that as well?

Yes, but then you can get stupid squad leaders also.

worst case scenario when you get a stupid Commander is say you are on Steel Thunder, going right round the back of the base and flanking from behind them. All guys haven't opened fire, about to move in. Enemy has no clue about the squad. All of a sudden you here "supplies at your position" and see this big box, with a huge shute and a nice icon land through the trees right next to you. If the enemy see it atall which they probably will its not hard to missed, the flank has just buzzled up :(

but who said it couldnt work to your advantage like i squadlead my clan all the time and theres a way u could use it to help u like put it somewhere u are not and wait for enemys to investigate and u and ure squad hide in the trees and then when they are there open fire (if ya have a few sf ppl then use pistols very effective if u have a 6 man squad and all firing) then once they are taken out they have long respawn andu move in and take the point!

solution.

i think everyone should know this... if you have a stupid SL, LEAVE THE SQUAD. i cant stand dumb SLs.

i cant beleive they made it so you cant screw around with arty reload time and stuff! super lame! thats why i cant wait for some player controlled arty =)

The whole artillery thing is very unrealistic. In the Marines, you're not supposed to call in artillery strikes within 600 meters of your position.

Artillery would, however, work on big open maps (El Alamein)

Mortars FTW

Player controlled artillery is even worse.

Would it be possible to have the scouting artillery view like in BF1942/DC? I loved that, and would be perfect for mortars.
