Other Weapons/Modifications

Post by Redneckman »

Ok, i have many ideas, but ill only put a few on the table for now.

1. Make Medics or Squad Leaders (if possible for engine) choose between XM16A (like in BFV) or M16. (Smaller more versital version like CAR15)
2. Adjustible zoom for sniper scopes.
3. Extendable bi-pod for MG's in prone that actually help accuracy.
4. Spec Ops have a camo looking paint, and scilencer on the AR. (like DC .8 BF1942)
5. Faster reloading, or maybe an effect of tapping magazine on helmet. (I know if i was in battle, id realod my rifle just a little faster.
6. Littlebird (MH-6) has miniguns on an attack variant.
7. Spec-op pistol has attachment for laser dot.
8. Humvee's go a little bit faster.
6. M60E4, 7.62 Caliber hard hitting MG. (even though out of date, still used and very reliable)

That's a few things i was thinking of, maybe one more that you wont agree with is having the Engineer have an M14.
Tell me what you think... :)

i think they would use the M-240 instead of the M-60.

and i would also like to have engs have more variety on weapons, but, i dont think they would carry an M-14, im thinking a *cough cough* SOCOM version of the M-14 which is smaller.

i agree with the XM16A for medics, i imagine them having a smaller a little bit less accurate gun, just because they cary all that stuff.

and we've all talked about a bipod that WORKS for MGs, im not sure if they have found a way to implement it though =(

id like a bipod to take a second or two to set up, then have it limit the machine gunners movement to stationary and left and right, when in prone and if you can ount it on something ;)

Yea, i agree with M-14 bit. The M60 just sounds so nice! (Blackhawk Down movie, when Twabley has the incedent with M249 and such).

yes, choosing between 2 or more weapons for every class would be highly welcommed
Redneckman wrote: 2. Adjustible zoom for sniper scopes.

nice too
Redneckman wrote: 3. Extendable bi-pod for MG's in prone that actually help accuracy.

the accuracy right now is fine, every bit more would make them a super weapon
but deployable bipods should be implemented and proning should take longer.
Redneckman wrote: 4. Spec Ops have a camo looking paint, and scilencer on the AR. (like DC .8 BF1942)

agreed but than damage points and bullet travel speed from silenced weapons needs to decreased
Redneckman wrote: 5. Faster reloading, or maybe an effect of tapping magazine on helmet. (I know if i was in battle, id realod my rifle just a little faster.
the tapping on helmet would be nice but speed on reload is ok.
Redneckman wrote: 6. Littlebird (MH-6) has miniguns on an attack variant.

yes miniguns on littlebirds is my dream too.
Redneckman wrote: 7. Spec-op pistol has attachment for laser dot.

hmm, we are here not in a movie
Redneckman wrote: 8. Humvee's go a little bit faster.
personaly i would agree to give every vehicle a little bit more speed but that would make them looking silly while moving and hard to hit

I think an M-14 for engeneer would be great, just give them the regular iron sighted one and be done with it.

Medics too I believe should have a smaller weapon, maybe the MP-9 or a FN P90, as someone said earlier they really shouldn't be an attacking soldier. He should have a weapon small enough to accommodate all of the medical gear but still provide protection if engaged by the enemy.

I don't however agree with decreasing the dammage if you had a silenced weapon, they have subsonnic ammunition that can penetrate armour so the dammage should still be comparable to the un-silenced version, the speed thing i agree with, no use having a silencer if your ammo still brakes the sound barrier.

Why would they choose older Vietnam era weapons(CAR-15 & XM16A) when there are improved modern versions of them available? The M16A2/4 and M4 (not A1) would be the weapons that the USMC would use.
2. Adjustible zoom for sniper scopes.
Agreed this should be implimented, but the sniper class is probably going to be replaced w/ designated marksman, which will probably weild an M16/4 with a static scope.
3. Extendable bi-pod for MG's in prone that actually help accuracy.
The MG's in prone already simulate a bi-pod being deployed accuracy wise. What would be nice is if the bipod be deployed on low walls and obstacles, to set up a hasty defense.
4. Spec Ops have a camo looking paint, and scilencer on the AR. (like DC .8 BF1942)
I'm not really sure about painted weapons, SF paints some of their weapons, but not all of them. Since this is the USMC, spec ops should realisticly be removed.
5. Faster reloading, or maybe an effect of tapping magazine on helmet. (I know if i was in battle, id realod my rifle just a little faster.
Reload should be made faster, all I really know is the M16/4, pistols, and the tank (even though there is an auto loader in-game on the M1, a good loader can load a Sabot in about 3 seconds, and a Heat in 3.5 seconds.) The reload speed should be much faster in general for all weapons.
6. Littlebird (MH-6) has miniguns on an attack variant.
Unless the PLA and MEC are given counterparts to combat this, this would just become a raping tool.
7. Spec-op pistol has attachment for laser dot.
The iron sights on the spec ops pistols are more than adequate. Against armed foes, the pistol is really a last resort weapon.
8. Humvee's go a little bit faster.
Realisticly, yes the HMMWV can reach 75 mph, but that's on flat smooth ground. The speed as is simulated the MAX speed of a tactical roadmarch(35mph), which for combat is more than sufficient.
6. M60E4, 7.62 Caliber hard hitting MG. (even though out of date, still used and very reliable)
The main MG fielded by infantry is the SAW, it's a lightweight (for a MG) weapon that can lay down a great amount of supressing fire. The USMC don't really need another one shot one kill weapon.

Tell me what you think... :)
1. Corpsmen, IMO, should carry M4 carbines or M16A4s (CAR-15 just seems too unrealistic)
2. Adjustable scope = awesome
3. Good idea
4. I think special operations forces should be phased out of the current PR maps
5. Reloading seems fine
6. An AH-6 would be nice
7. Sounds cheesy
8. I think they're fine
9. The M60E4 is relatively new, and is now in use by the US Navy SEALs. I think the SEALs should be added to Project Reality. However, an M240 should be added

Also, an engineer with an M14 just isn't right. The M14 and its DMR variant should be used by designated marksmen and special operations forces

I like most of your ideas except point 3. I don't think MG's need better accuracy. I also want to see adjustable snipers zoom. But I don't know if it's possible on the Bf2 engine? And if I am correct, there will be silencers on the spec-ops (or other class) rifles from what I see in the media gallery. :)

1. I believe that the standard marine carries an M16A2 Service Rifle as they call it. If the Army is included, I think the M4A1 would be appropiate for the standard rifleman.

2. Good idea if possible

3. I don't know. The M249 SAW really doesn't have any recoil whats so ever. If possible perhaps an animation could make it so that the bipods extend while prone (for visual purposes). It might actually be something of an excuse to delay the instant firing. However accuracy really shouldn't increase since you can virtually snipe with those guns atm.

4. Special Ops should be phased out. I think PR should make Special Forces only maps in the future.

5. I think reload times should vary. If possible, perhapsthe higher rank the player, the faster the reload to simulate experiance. Perhaps a wounded soldier could reload slower than a fresh soldier as well. I don't think you should be able to reload while sprinting, since your arms are normally swaying while sprinting. Can it be made so that reload times are tied to movement and/or rank?

6. An AH-6 with miniguns eh. Don't really care. As long as its placed on a map played out by special forces groups. A counter isn't really needed if theres good map balance.

7. No. A laser dot is likely to expose an your presence. A laser dot is really more of a SWAT item.

8. The M-240 Machine gun would probably be more likely.

The engineer with an M14? If anything the DMR class with the Marines should probably be given the M14. An engineer should carry a more compact weapon. Such as the M4A1 or an MP5.

Also, if possible on Urban maps could the shotgun be made an alternate option for the assault class.

The M4A1 would very appropriate for the US Army (if implemented) in PR because I think a majority of the community would prefer Rangers, the 101st Air Assault, or 82nd Airborne over the 3rd Infantry Division

Combat Engineers in the US Army usually carry M4s for what it's worth.

What's wrong with the 3rd ID, Cerberus?

I've got nothing against the 3rd ID, but the Rangers and other airborne units are more likely to appeal to a majority of gamers because of the transportation they use, as well as the fact that they get optics on their weapons

But those units are used in specific operations. If possible, I hope PR implements unit organization. Such as the 3rd Marine Division probably being the primary unit in the eastern/pacific theatre against China.

EH? Actually rangers were looking at our stryker units, and actually brought a few into their ranger battalions. And as for optins, we got everything from acogs, aimpoints (m6 8) , and I even got a holographic sight from eotech.

Rangers aren't the only ones who get the cool toys. 8)

And the M16A2 is being replaced by the A-4. The same thing, just the foregrip is modular and has the picatinny rail system which allows for mounting of optics and lasers.

CAR-15 is no longer in use by the services since the official adoption of the M4, though it is a name still used often to refer to any short barreled weapon of the M16 family. M4/M4A1 and M16A2/M16A4 are the most common primary weapons of the US serviceman, depending on his branch, (Army, Marines, etc.) arm (infantry, combat engineer) and unit (rifle platoon, STA platoon, etc.) of service.
Redneckman wrote:2. Adjustible zoom for sniper scopes.
Not all sniper rifles are issued with variable magnification telescopic sights. The M24 represented in game is issued with a fixed 10x Leupold sight, and the Marines have been using a fixed 10x Unertl sight for their M40A3 (they are now phasing in Schmidt & Bender variable 3-12x sights, though). If a rifle represented in-game is most commonly issued with a variable magnification optical sight, it will be implemented in-game with one. And it is possible, we've experimented with it. :)
Redneckman wrote:3. Extendable bi-pod for MG's in prone that actually help accuracy.
Considered; working on it.
Redneckman wrote:4. Spec Ops have a camo looking paint, and scilencer on the AR. (like DC .8 BF1942)
There will be different variants of the same weapon depending on maps and through class / unlockable tab selection. Suppressors are a possibility, as are different skins.
Redneckman wrote:5. Faster reloading, or maybe an effect of tapping magazine on helmet. (I know if i was in battle, id realod my rifle just a little faster.
Not sure how much faster it needs to be.
Redneckman wrote:6. Littlebird (MH-6) has miniguns on an attack variant.
We do plan to include an AH-6 eventually.
Redneckman wrote:7. Spec-op pistol has attachment for laser dot.
Visible laser aiming modules are not typically issued nor are they preferred in the military because they start to become a crutch for poor marksmanship fundamentals. When small arms aiming devices are used, they are normally used to point out/ illuminate targets.
Redneckman wrote:8. Humvee's go a little bit faster.
HMMWVs aren't that fast in real life, probably even the ones that have the governor removed. They're pretty heavy vehicles; not that fast, but very agile despite their bulkiness.
Redneckman wrote:6. M60E4, 7.62 Caliber hard hitting MG. (even though out of date, still used and very reliable)
The M60E4 is not in US service. The Mk-43 light machinegun in use by certain USSOCOM units is sort of a ******* child of the M60E3 and M60E4, sharing characteristics of both. This is being phased out by the Mk-48 light machinegun. The M240B (US Army) and M240G (USMC) are now the standard 7.62mm medium machinegun of US forces, with a few M60s here and there in various roles (some M60Ds can still be seen as door / window guns on helicopters).
Redneckman wrote:That's a few things i was thinking of, maybe one more that you wont agree with is having the Engineer have an M14.
The M14 is still in use only by select personnel in different configurations. As a selective-fire battle rifle, it is only used by US special operations forces and the Navy (who still use it for line-throwing during at-sea replenishment). Various configurations of the M14 national match rifle (M21, M25, USMC DMR, etc.) are in service as designated marksman's weapons in the Army, Marines and USSOCOM.

As Deuce said, that's true for most front line combat arms troops now. In photos the most common sight I see mounted on the rail of an M4 or M16 is an M68 close-combat optic, with some ACOGs here and there, and the back-up iron sights.

If that's true now (which I'm certain it is), then America's Army (the game) has to get with the times
