3 min wait at beginning of each game

Post by ghost_dog »

I have noticed that at the beginning of a game with the 2 min 3 min countdown while everyone is getting into teams and selecting there kit, that sometimes it’s done all at the last min and it seems to me anyways that everyone is most worried about the team there in, and once your team is ready we take off, and the same with other teams, I have no idea what other teams objectives are etc.
It reminded me of Vanilla bf2 when individuals would go off on their own, but now its teams doing it.
I constantly hearing team mates and SL’s complaining about other teams and what they are doing, well usually its said more like ( WTF is the other Squads doing. )
Maybe at the beginning of a game the teams SL’s ( Commanders if there is one ) forced to talk to each other and to organise their strategy, before the game allows you to start.
Commander if there is one, talks to all SL’s in a staging area, while other teams mates wait in the team groups, when the SL’s return they inform the rest of the Squad what s happening and what kits we will need and who gets them etc.
And if there is no commander then just the SL’s have to go to staging area at main base and work out a plan.
I believe as well that if its starts like that at the very begining then it will give a move overall picture for all the teams, and obviously the strategy will be a constant changing tactic.
I think allot would agree it’s the working together to accomplish the objective that’s the fun part.

What do you think :) sounds cool heyyy :)

I think the 2-3 min warmup is primarily meant to give enough time for all to load the map.
Also latetly I've seen players create squads late during this warm-up to avoid the squad bug (I have no clue whether that really helps or not).

The wait is to ensure that people join the game, join squads and get a bit of a briefing before the game starts. SL's talk with Commander about tactics first, and SL's with squad members (you meant squad members not 'teams' didn't you?)

People are joining squads late as most people don't want to be an SL.

I'm not sure which servers you are joining, but the points you mention are not suggestions, they are gaming as generally done on the servers I play on. Maybe you need to change the servers you commonly play on if you aren't seeing effective roleplaying by the players.

sadly, often the time is not enough to give all squads orders as a comm and if you do they wont follow them in the first place :(

Well you can also adjust yourself to this fact as a squadleader.

For Example: Op. Ghost Train chinese squadleader. We need to go to bridge as well as the train. But we need train first. No need to hang there with all squads so I tell my squad members: If theres no friendly's going there we will take that objective, if they are well head out to bridge. And I alert the team via teamchat of our objective when theres no commander.

I usually tell the squad that I will be waiting until there is 45 secs left on the game-start counter for the next map before I make the next squad. Most times I remember to tell them in the last few minutes of a round. After a few rounds, people who have stayed with you for a few rounds will get the idea and we fill the squad moments after creation. I don't like locking squads and mucking about with invites and all that. Others will join and leave at certain points, and once they are in, they'll learn the system ready for the next round.

I usually wait until the 45 second mark because it gives all the squaddies a chance to load up the map and you don't end up with a squad full of people who have the fastest computers (could be good, could be bad). Besides, if the squad members can't be bothered waiting for the timer (when they would be doing nothing anyway) or didn't listen to the previous round instruction to wait then they're not the biggest loss to the squad.

The "start a squad then leave a squad" ADD behaviour at the start of round annoys me (but not as much as the fools who spamm the Page up/Page Down - Yes Sir/No sir buttons). Basically, I prefer to play with people with at least a modicum of patience. If they are all ACTION/ ACTION/ ACTION - there will be next to no chance of getting these sort of people to defend when needed.

It does cut down on time to talk before the round, but it only takes 10 secs to get a basic gameplan out to the squad members or get a destination(or build plan) from the commander. Most rounds have at least a minute or two of travel at round start which is plenty of time to have a quick yak to each other and get orientated.

The 3-minute period was a great change in 0.7. I just wish the commander could use this time more effectively. As it is now you have to broadcast to all squads at the same time and you can't place any markers on the map.

As a result, I will assign orders to the one or two squads that need to roll-out quickly or spawn at a non-standard location and then wait for the game to start to talk to the others.

But yes, it's great to have this time to prepare.. and actually see people doing it.

When you've just spent an hour or so on a map it's needed sometimes :p

Usually get back in time to make some proper use of it though.
