i have searched the words "food" and "nutrition" and didnt see anything suggesting what im about to.

My suggestion is to implement nutrition and the requirement to eat.
I have two ideas on how a system could be implemented but first of all i need to tell the basic concept that remains the same either way.

My suggestion is to add a Nutrition bar that would take an hour to an hour and a half to empty.
It would be tied into the sprint bar by which i mean it directly affects how long sprint lasts the lower the nutrition the lower time for sprint and likewise when using sprint the nutrition bar degrades at 2 times the rate it normaly does.
Also linked to the bar would be the players accuracy because after all if your starving its hard to concentrate and your hands may shake more.
For the player to replenish their nutrition bar they would have to eat.

My first idea on how to gain nutrition is to have rations in every kit just like another item. Is there space?
They would work like the medbag so you can give some to your squad if they need it but are empty (because in real life people share) but it only contains enough to replenish one nutrition bar before needing to be reloaded from a crate. I would like to add that the refiling of the bar would take a long time thus the need to pull out from combat.

Maybe its even possible to add in different food items take a british army ration for example have a small item that replenishes less a yorkie bar and a item that replensishes all a boil in the bag rat pack. The yorkie would be like a field dressing throw it down get it quick but only gives a little bit back and the boil in the bag is like the med pack has a lot but needs time to replenish fully.

The second idea is that squads rally points, a point in mainbase (a tent maybe) and bunkers/firebases give back nutrition when you wait there to simulate the soilder stopping for something to eat.

This is something i would like to see and considering games can last upto 3 hours this would be seen a fair bit within a round.

Remembering this is project reality this is something i would like to see implemented after all soliders need to eat they are people too and considering army rations contain almost twice (i think i know its a fair bit more) the average energy requirement for most people they need to eat alot more. All the running and shooting :mrgreen:

Also, water is critical in desert maps. Maybe this could be implemented too?

add a canteen item. =P
Or work it the same as the go to bunker rp idea.
I think water would affect the same things as the food suggestion.

I'm able not to eat for about 48 hours before I feel anything and I'm sure that soldiers are able to aim and sprint even without to eat.

Besides that I don't think that it is possible due to the engine limitations.

EDIT: Water in fact is very important thats true but still too much work even if it would be possible.

It adds an unnecessary layer of complexity that doesn't contribute to gameplay and would most likely be considered a hassle more than a feature.

And yeah, at least for the German forces, there are no more slots available.

Super soilder :mrgreen:

i know soilders do go without stopping to cook food for extended periods but most soilders (the ones i know) would carry some items from rat packs with them so they can eat on the move.

The water idea sounds better, Basic principle is really good, Nutrition bar depletes over about half hour, after that you cant sprint (or have minimal sprint) I think tying in the aim system would get complicated but if you could have a droppable canteen in certain kits it would be rather funky...

Awkward to implement but Im sure there's a happy medium somewhere where a squad wont be dropping out of combat too much and where if a Squad is in constant action they can get a rest

If you think about it it would be VERY good for teamplay along with realism as flags would have to swap over their defensive status with other squads in order to drop back to a bunker to get some R&R

(you had to mention the yorkie didnt ya doom? lol)

its not complex it would only need to be done once a round.

And thus the bunker rp idea.

Thats one major thing it brings because in rl one doesnt lock down an area nd stay forever i know game time is onlt like a few hours but still.

apart from being too much work, or an extra level of complexity...

battlefield2 is all about a large assault. Project Reality imo will never be a slow paced game, because there are people who wish to play at a high level of pace. Simple...You launch the attack, you take your flags, and stay fighting untill the enemy submits. and the time scale is usually only a couple of hours. Water maybe, but food wouldnt work imo.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just being a realist.

What's the point? It would likely require a lot of coding work for an extremely arbitrary result. Work that could go towards creating more of some the amazing features as seen in the dev journal.

You have to ask yourself if it is really worth it in the cost/benefit scale?


And lets be honest, if you can't go 2-3 hours without eating, you are a major fatty.

IMO;

Food = No, games are faaar too short. Soldiers would get scoff down them at the LUP before the fight.

Water = No as a survival requirement, BUT I can see this being good if each soldier carries a canteen whose use fully recharges their sprint but then needs 'reloading' at an ammo cache. That bit may be a little unrealistic but unless you can code it so that it refills from streams/fountains etc then it'd be the only way to work it.

Considering the length of time games last and the fact that many classes are already maxed out on equipmnent, I can't say I see this being a good idea. Add into that all the coding involved to get it working and we may well have a problem
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

too much of a hassle. This is not exactly a "role playing" survival game. Most people would rather click the suicide button then look for water and food.

We will get to that when we get the Birthing system out of the way. You would be amazed how hard a bundled mesh DNA is to get working on such a slow engine. :roll:
