Explosion damage standing/prone

Post by Rudd »

afaik if you go prone you have a greater chance of surviving an explosion nearby, since you won't get thrown down and the low profile is better for avoiding shrapnel and other debris

I was wondering if explosions from grenades etc should act the same way in PR?
Or if they actually already do (me and Gazzthompson did some testing and we found that it didn't really matter if you were standing/prone at a 5m distance from a grenade going off)

Interesting. I was thinking exactly the same lately but didn't bother to post it.

just to make sure I'm clear, this isn't a suggestion for shrapnel

that would be a resuggestion, since shrapnel has been discarded for reasons of LAG afaik

I'm sure it has something to do with how the BF2 engine registers damage from explosions. In reality, it's often the frag from the grenade/ HE round that kills you, but making the engine have to basically account for thousands of pieces of shrapnel per grenade would more than likely make it shit its pants.

Well iirc this is how it works in bf2, there is a wall of material coming at you and if it hits you it give you damage, so if you are standing that wall hits you in the head, chest, arms, ect. But if you are prone it wouldnt hit your whole body.

So long as none of the damage is to your head then you stand a better chance of surviving even a close explosion. It helps if the damage is in a slight dip in the ground, then going prone helps
