Suggestion for your US army update

Post by Bilbao »

Hey guys!

Well i had a good suggestion that other people you guys dont know agree with me and that is.

Usually in a Black Hawk or any other chopper, all chopper pilots dont use those huge round helmet things and the huge glass or whatever on it. I mean i have seen really good movies such as Black Hawk down which all pilots use the crewman helmet... (once again for helicopter pilots)..

Second of all id like to state out that all pilots should be able to be equipped with at least an SMG such as the weapon an Anti Tank class uses on Battlefield 2 Vanilla...

Oh, and i just made up something that probably lots and lots of people have asked but.. I think you guys should add a fastrope feature for all Helicopters when hovering over something they need to get too and instead of landing a chopper onto that designated area which they want to go, there should be a certain passenger who presses a button and throws down the rope then like another passenger could press a certain button to get out of the helicopter and hang onto the rope... sounds pretty fair instead of dodging all those tall buildings and lamp posts.

~ These are just my suggestions that you guys could probably do or add on..

Thanks

welcome to the forums

I like the suggestion about the helmet, but fastroping is 1) not used outside of narrow streets afaik, and would probably result in death ingame in PR, 2)Fastropes are what we call hardcoded, i.e. cannot be put in by a mod team with this game engine

The return of fastropes! Don't worry Bilbao, they'll be in PR 1.0

I agree with the smg instead of pistol. MP5 would be great since the pistol is just as useful as the rock.

Oh and why are people so crazy over fast ropes? You need to be low to use em which risks getting shot at and you need to hover which increases the risk x1000. I'd rather land real quick and take off a split second later

YES! that was the helmet i was talking about.. good job finding it!

Anyways id also forgot to mention one suggestion and that is i think those US special operations MARKSMAN and SPECIAL OPERATIONS.. (Or sniper for desert areas) are these suits.. (Normal desert vests and skins etc.. but the helmet which i am very liking and look much alike some of US snipers today and that is...

Focus on the soldier on the right and look at his helmet (black)...

Ohhh and one last thing to point out.. it'd be nice if those dead corpses could stay on the ground for quite a while (for example like 12 minutes or so.)

It's hard to say if those helmets are still used...Ive seen navy seals use them (the pic's may have been outdated though) but more recently it seems even special forces are using the kevlar helmet (green berets and what not)

Fastropes are a bit of a joke around here -- they're not really used much in conventional warfare, and the engine doesn't support them well.

Also, pilots carry a side arm and that's it -- BH pilots aren't issued any sort of PDW outside of a handgun.

There is no rotor collisions in BF2, so there is no reason to use fast ropes, a technique that leave both parties very vulnerable. In BHD, Pilots had MP5's because they where evaluating them at that period of time. The black helmet you are referring to is a hockey helmet, Delta used them because they where much lighter and offered protection against walls and door frames and rocks, and the fact that all helmets don't stop bullets.

You cant come in here using BHD as a reference. The DEV team has quite a few real life military men to advise them for this kind of stuff.

There is no standard helmet for Delta(the force depicted in BHD)

Here is a pic of Delta in A-Stan............

Fastropes are impossible and have been suggested so many times before, its not even funny. Check the already suggested thread before you suggest next time :)

I'm surprised by the positive, polite attitude in here, considering all the BHD references.

But to sum up:

Fastropes: has been suggested before so many times it's become a bit of a joke 'round here. It's impossible to do properly, too, and, with rotor blades having no collision meshes, quite useless.

SMG for pilot: has been suggested before nearly as many times as the fastropes. I really don't think they'll be added, as the point is to encourage pilots to stay in the air, or, if shot down, get away and get a pickup as soon as possible and avoid any sort of combat. But wait for .8 - a lot of the kits have been revamped, and maybe the pilot kit will have changed, too.

Pilot helmets: problem is that there's only one pilot kit, so it'll have to be the same helmet for jet jockeys as for heli pilots. New helmet/general look of the pilot kit has also been suggested before (by SuperTimo, IIRC).

New helmets for snipers: not realistic, even if it's in BHD. they use proper helmets of soft hats/ghillie suits. If you look around the Internets, I can almost guarantee you, you will not find a single one wearing a hockey helmet. As for Special Forces, they probably won't wear them either on the sort of ops we're seeing in PR. That is, behind-the-lines stuff, blowing ammo caches, fighting alongside regular units. House raids á la BHD aren't in PR. Also refer to the picture above.

So all of your suggestions have been suggested and discussed before, and/or are impossible/unrealistic to implement, however much I like the SMG suggestion. ;) Thus, it's my job as a MOD to lock this thread.

On another note: welcome to the PR forums! :D Please have a look around for suggestions that might have been suggested before, and don't be afraid to PM me or another MOD to ask about anything. Oh, and don't use BHD as your only reference. ;)
