Cause 7,62x39 is classic caliber for middle eastern armed forces.
My choice, also. Most of the AK users in the ME never made the 5.45mm switch since they were already producing their own 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and AK-47/AKM variants. It didn't make logistical sense for them to make the switch, and it still doesn't. Also, the AK-103 does not use any wooden furniture; timber is not an abundant resource in the ME, and though the average humidity is lower there, heat is still not very kind to wood from a maintenance perspective, especially when it comes to firearms maintenance. License producing AK-103s would be easy to transition to for manufacturers, operators and maintainers as well as offering some improvement over the original.
