Fancy RP locations

Post by LimaTango »

Today on [T&T] Tactics & Teamwork server I noticed that many people place their RPs outside the combat area or in treetops with the grappling hook.
Is this commonly accepted by the PR-community?

If it´s the best way to hide your rallypoint.
Why not?

I don't like it personally, nor do I like it when RPs are placed in the air by various means, such as grapple hook in a tree.

why?
1) its taking advantage of game mechanics with no regard for realism, u wanna spawn in a non-combat area, spawn at main.
2) it doesnt necessarily give the squad an advantage, its just that you can't be bothered to find a good, well covered, hiding spot.
3) it makes it hard for the squad to get limited kits

Agreed! Couldn't be nice if the RPs couldn't be place right at the "map border" outside the map, and in the trees? That's just plain stupid!

Agreed. I dont like it. Thats just one of the playstyles players use to WIN instead of having a good time with this game.

Outside combat area's? You mean like when you get the desserter warning?

How real is a rally point anyway? If this is to be truly real then do away with rallies altogether.

I wouldn't mind RPs being removed all together, proper hardcore :D

They are a gameplay facilitator, not a realistic asset, but with the advent of the Bunker and firebase (especially with the announced changes to the bunker system) the RP isn't really needed. BUT! if it is going to be used, I'd prefer it was used in the most realistic capacity it can.

I agree with the idea that you shouldn't be able to place rally's out of bounds, but in trees seems reasonable to me, make it so you can shoot rallys and it's fine.

In reality a RP should be more of a position to get kits and rearm from, maybe even set up a couple minor defense positions around like a sandbag. Removing them as a spawn point would further force tactics and give more incentive to shy away from the pointless endless waves of cannon fodder.

Well if a rally is placed out of bounds you can usually take it out. Only approve on small maps.

Werent there even plans about removing them?

However, I disagree with placing them in trees and outside of the combat area. Not for realism, but for gameplay. That is a bug. They are not supposed to be placed there. Shooting them is loud, and placing them in a tree in a small map like OGT is somewhat unfair.

But, uhm... hasnt there been a thread about this some time ago? Ending up in flames?

Yeah, why not? It's fair game. Any squad leader on any team can do it...

what kind of idiot would put the rp in a tree? why would you do that. by doing that you make it so your squad cant get limited kits.

The same reason many players dont like sucide jeeps, medic death/revive plummet, reduced spawn times and instant switch tanks.

Because its a bug that's not intended and that it can be exploited for unfair gameplay. The only fairness would be if everyone did it, would you really want that?

Do you think the game would be more fun if every single squad on a server placed a rally in a tree/reduced their spawn time to defend/insantswitched apcs so they can have more infantry? :|

I need to try this sometime, just for giggles:

Take an officer's kit.
Load up a Merlin with squad members.
Have the copilot drop the ramp.
Have the pilot hover very very steadily.
From the F7 seat, exit the Merlin so I'm standing inside.
Stand near the ramp.
Drop a rallypoint on the ramp...
...and have the pilot fly off.

Voilá, RP in the sky :D

Yeah up in tree's isnt good at all. Ive seen them outside the map border but those are still easy to take out. Its really just a disadvantage to the squad, if its far enough outside the combat area youll stary to bleed, so what if you dont have a medic? What if you need a LAT or grenaider when your RP's up in a tree? See, just a disadvantage. If it does really bother you take the RP out with explosives or camp it till they give up.
