Penalty for Random Destruction

Post by EOD_Security-2252 »

I was playing in battle arena the other day and some the insurgent team was hiding in buildings around/in the village. Then, a British APC came and destroyed the entire village (no joke, only like 3 buildings were left standing). So, I'm wondering if it is possible to make it so players are punished for destroying too much stuff. I know it's fun to blow up buildings, I love Bad Company for that, but since this is Project Reality, I don't think high command would be to happy with the soldiers that decided to level a whole village because there were a couple insurgents in the village.
Also, while writing this I got another idea. I think Mosques should all have combat area domes around them and players should loose points for directly hitting a Mosque structure. That's the way it is in real life.

What does everyone think?

You don't, the points are there to represent commendations and reprimands.

Haha I know it's American not british, but surely the army would never use overkill tactics :P

Then you might as well not the make the buildings destructible if players will be punished if they are "destroying too much stuff".

Yeah, JDAMs and large explosives are used on larger size buildings. Also, entire villages did not get destroyed in those videos. I don't mind blowing up like 1/4 of the village's buildings, but the village was almost leveled.
Also, that's not overkill. JDAMs on snipers are really common because snipers won't let troops even get close to the building. No joke, the Brits didn't even try to come into the village, they just had the APC level the village before they even got close enough for the Insurgents to start shooting.

If the buildings aren't destroyable then the option for good vs. bad choice doesn't exist. That'd be like taking away Civilian because people killed them. <-- Very bad idea.

Boo.

Any attempt to reduce the amount of things I can blow up is bad.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

One dude was doing that with tank so me and 3 other civilians got in one building by the wall, moments later he either suicided from to many civie kills or had a LOOONG respawn.

No, if troops take fire from anywhere like a mosque or village they call command ask if they can fire, and if command says yes they destroy the target area. Its the same thing with the APC, its his life and village or your team losing and your life.

They don't just destroy the target area most of the time, especially if it's a mosque. Also, the Commander actually thinks about public relations. In PR, the commander would just say yes.

Was their a guy bragging that round about destroying 4 caches? If so, Then that was ME! And it was me and my SL who leveled your entire village with not an APC but our Scimi!

I just watched a vid about AH64 in the morning and when(after a terrible accuracy of the 30mm and a ton of missed shots on a group of 4 people) he finnaly got the last one, the pilot said: Can you stop hitting the houses now?

From what I understand, many, many destructible buildings are being taken out of many maps.

the buildings damage is fine, those can be rebuilt quickly by reserve/releif troops. what should really be punished is destroying infrastructure, bridges, etc. i made a post about how to avoid bridges being destroyed but no one replied to it

I hope not, destructible enviroments are far more realistic than anything else we could ask for.

I agree, the destructilbe environments are great, but they can be abused.
