Abandoning vehicles question/discussion

Post by cyberzomby »

Something I thought of almost each time I read a reaction like: "People should not abandon vehicles in the middle of the map" I agree with them, but on the same time I go like: But how else should I use them?

I mean. Usualy you grab a vehicle with your squad to move up, drop the vehicle with a rally and assault or defend a position. The only way I can think of not wasting the vehicle afterwards is telling a squaddy to go bring it back to main or firebase nearby and walk back to you.

Who does this? I mean, getting people to defend a flag can be hard at times. Getting them to build a bunker can sometimes be tougher. But how can you "demand" that a random guy wastes 10 minutes to return a vehicle and walk back? Sure you will help the rest of the team with that but the next squad will probably waste it by parking it somewhere where they stopped needing it.

Reason of this topic to sum up ;) . What do you guys do to not abandon a jeep or commtruck? Do you let someone drive it back to base ( maybe pick up another squad there ) and let him/her walk back to you?

I think the abandon vehicle discussion is mostly about tanks, apc and suport jeeps, and u shouldnt use CO trucks as transport but as...well,CO truck XD
And if u sue a jeep, just use it in combat too(jeep borne troops) and use then to trasport->capture->transport->captur so u keep it and use it.

-If I need to dump a vehicle I do so near a flag or spawn of some sort(Near is 50-100m). However, I mostly use the vehicle myself as a gun platform or supply point. Tanks/APCs/Helis should NEVER be abandoned, mkay?

A problem is that the Jeep is a great target for LAT/HAT, meaning that it will almost certainly be destroyed within seconds unless the vehicle has nearby infantry support. This is why many squad leaders park their jeeps far from the target flag, set a rally, and walk from there.

Ideally, the SL would leave one or two guys behind with the Jeep to provide some covering fire with the .50 cal while the area is secured by the rest of the squad. This defends both the jeep and the rally, while allowing the SL to retain the use of the jeep after he and his infantry are killed.

Gclark03 got it right. Im not riding my jeep in a hostile situation! Even normal bullets can take it out ( the guys in them, and seeing your in a noisy, high profile car, you might as well put a big sign: SHOOT ME NOW on top )

And yeah. APC's, Tanks and the likes are out of the discussion. Co trucks not for transport? Sorry! But I saw this all the time! That sorta limits the transport means on some maps than wouldnt it?

CO trucks are simply too convinient as a mass transport. 8 slots, only drivable by officers(and engis)? Lack of starter humvees on some maps(Kashan)? Who's not going to use it for transport?

Thats what I meant. And seeing how few firebases are built during a round ( in my experience ) we can use them easily as transport and return them back when they are needed right?

In real life the support trucks are used for troop transport.
People abandoning vehicles is a real problem in PR (at least in battlearena). Personally, whenever my SL tells me to ditch the vehicle (usually a truck or jeep) I'll try to park it in a river (a bit fake, but the best method I know of).
People abandoing armor shouldn't be a problem because anyone using armor should be dedicated to just doing armor until they die.
Personally, I think the devs just need to lower the time away period for the vehicles. Not by much, but just enough.

If I abandon any vehicle, if I have explosives of me I'll dispose of it, or inform squad leader/ commander there is a vehicle that needs recovering or destroyed. It far better to knock it out so it respawns quicker. If I run an engineer squad, part of my play is destroying and recovering abandoned vehicles.

It is very gamey to destroy vehicles so they respawn. I hate it. Please, dont decrease the time a vehicle can stay somewhere before blowing up. Rather get the players to protect their vehicles. Stop using them as one-way taxis. Rather walk. If you use them, dont leave them, keep them. They can be useful if protected.

Meh...

And if you blow up vehicles you alert the enemy of your presence. Usually when your in a jeep you can get pretty close without the engine giving you away. but the explosion and smoke cloud gives you away from a muh greater distance.

works in 2 ways. Abandoning it leaves the team to have a vehicle nearby later on, on the other hand blowing up an enemy abandoned vehicle will make it spawn back at main for them to use again.

Airsoft, are you suggesting we use a common courtesy policy and blow up abandon enemy vehicles we find? I usually don't do it because I'm mean like that, but that's sounds like a nice idea.

the way i see it, the humvee's should be used as a gun platform that drives with the squad (even in the streets) this way you got an effective way of suppressing the enemy/returning fire) that's what i try and use my vehicles for when i'm sl anyway. the biggest problem is the landie with no protection though. but it will become much more effective as soon as the gunners get proper protection (ballistic shields all the way around them) or the crow systems. then people will have to account for a rifleman at in their squad when they patrol.

I think if people made dedicated transport squads and shuttled people from main to wherever within reason, it would help, although it would effectively remove 3-4 players from the fight.

I might actually try this this evening or afternoon. Create a transport squad, hope theres a commander and get myself a comm-truck to ferry squads around. Humvee's wont work because you get one person who cant fit in there rememember? Or maybe make an APC squad and also use them to ferry people around.

usually my inf squad im in uses only 1 vehicle through the whole round.sometimes it gets shot but when we dont need it we hide it and use it later, but abandoning (spelling?) vehicles is not common in my squad.
