ATC for BF2 PR

Post by |TG| Mr_Fighter_99 »

PoE has their map pack for ATC For BF2. Why can't PR have one? IMO this program is more useful in PR than in PoE. Has anyone seen a map pack or maybe we'll get one when 0.8 comes out?

That project gets suggested all the time.
It needs someone with initiative.

EDIT:

Found the topic. But what use will it be for PR? Some clans probably just have a print-screen of the map with there tactics drawn on it right? And anyone knows the saying: Once you hit the enemy, all plans go out the window.

I thought you can simply import .jpg .png .bmp etc into ATC anyway? So just find a decent largish picture of the map you need, of which there are many, and use that.

Yep, all you need are screenshots, preferably from Battlerecorder.
And everyone needs the same pictures, and all the titles need to be identical.
Really, it's no big deal to collect such a mappack.
It could probably be done in a single afternoon by an effective individual.

But what would it add? Like I can imagine a lot of clans out there already have maps on the forums with there tactics on it or have trained so much that all the NCO's know where the send there squads.

yep, all it really takes is some one with photoshop skills, some knoladge of how to edit view distances etc and mainly, lots and lots of time to do it all in since its not a small job, man hrs wise.

we simply have more important work to be doing for us developers, and would love some on in the community to do this.

I alos tried emailing the ATC team ages ago for permission etc to do it but they never replied...

Well Im fairly good at photoshop and want to contribute to this mod but I dont really understand what should be done here. For example: Why do we need view distances on a map?

well, commonly with ATC they do shots over and around flags and main combat areas with increased view distance so you can plan better and outside the view distance. Thou the main thing is the minimaps.

You would also want to try and add in all the PR vehicles, kits, factions etc which would be pretty damn tricky code wise as you will probaly need to edit the progam, but for taking the shots you could use the BF2 editor then apply some AA to the images in photoshop.

We are talking about this right?

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlefiel ... 2-5-a.html

Ill do a search over the internet for some more examples so I can give you an answer wether I could try.

EDIT:

heres a youtube video of it with COD maps. It looks like theres only overhead maps in this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjJ2LQn0ezA

So with those ingame screenshots you talked about should be in to just to draw some lines with text added that says: Watch this window right here, watch this alley way right?

ye, much like that.

TweakGuides.com - Battlefield 2 Tweak Guide

you can find some good info there about how to apply freecam, can do the most stuff with just the minimap thou which you will need the nvidia dds tools for photoshop to be able to open, they are in each maps client.zip/hud/minimap/ingamemap.dds

ok. So to sum up:

I need to gather every mini-map in Project Reality. I need to make screenshots of area's I think are important enough. Add those all in one folder and its done right?

EDIT:

Before I start tweaking my BF2 folder stuff i just can make a back-up by copying it before I change anything right?

ye more or less. ares of importance are mainly flags etc. also you will want to dump the images in more than one folder, have a sub folder for each map etc.

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... dding.html

that will help you setup a version for editing with.

also you will probaly want to wait till v0.8 is out before you get right onto this, can do a few pratices before then but to do the whole job, its going to take a min of a months work i reckon depending on your free time etc and by the time your done .8 will either be almost out or out and no one will have time to use it on .75.

Hmm. Well Im starting an internship in September so my evenings could be pretty free ( depends on how much work I get for website/video hobby/client thing )

Ofcourse I still want to play PR now and than :P But I cant see that it takes so much time. Depends on how easy the modding of my client is. If that all succeeds than I think Im just gonna plan a map every evening. Make sure I get everything. minimap file, screenshot of the important area's and done. Is there someway of finding out wich flags cause bleed so I could put a marker near those?

Well the minimap files (ingamemap.dds) don't seem to include any flags, the capture order (AAS), cap radii, spawns or boundaries. According to the ATC website, the images are scaled to 560x560 within the application. You may as well scale the stuff down in order to reduce the download size. You may also want to make close ups of each flag.
