AgustaWestland A129 "Mangusta"

Image
The Agusta A129 Mangusta (Mongoose) (AW129 from June 2007) is an attack helicopter manufactured by Agusta (part of AgustaWestland) of Italy. It is the first attack helicopter to be designed and produced wholly in Western Europe.

The name "Mangusta" was a commercial found to suggest the ability to beat the "Cobra", name of the competitor that the helicopter (Bell AH-1) when the A129 was developed. The only Italian military units to have supplied this helicopter is the aircraft Brigade "Friuli".

The A129 Mangusta was developed to provide an anti-tank attack helicopter for the Italian Army. An export version, the A129 International, is a lower-cost helicopter with added firepower and upgraded avionics.

Design of the A129 began in 1978. The first of five Mangusta prototypes performed its initial official flight on 15 September 1983, and the fifth prototype first flew in March 1986.

The A129 can be used in the anti-armour, armed reconnaissance, ground attack, escort, fire support and anti-aircraft roles.

In the anti-armour role, the helicopter can carry either Hellfire, TOW or Spike-ER missiles, or a mixture of them. The A129 can also be equipped with 81 mm or 70 mm (2.75 in) unguided rockets and has a three-barrel 20 mm cannon in a turret mounted under its nose.

For the anti-aircraft role, Stinger or Mistral missiles can be carried.

The A129 is equipped with autonomous navigation and night vision systems in order to provide both day/night and all-weather combat capabilities.
What do you think? Do you like it? We have just made the model but unfortunately I can not finish because I did not "skinner."
Some question?

The Tiger and Apache are the bad copy of Mangusta.
The Chinese and Turks have copied our helicopter.
Made in Italy.

I think it is different skin the helicopter Chinese.

Lol?
The Apache was made 8 years before the Mungusta.

As Rambo says, the Apache pre-dates the Mangusta and performs considerably better, too. Anyway, that's irrelevant.

The "WZ-10" in BF2/PR is actually the A-129 Mangusta, and a simple re-skin for that chopper would work fine into putting it into an Italian livery/paintjob.

Dice hadnt enouth pictures of the real Z10 so they decided to use a helicopter which looks like this one. So they use the Magusta instead of the Z10.

lolz. Like everyone else says, the Apache is a older design, and was made by Westland Helicopters which is now part of Agusta afaik.

The Tiger is hardly a bad design either, even if it is some what influenced by anouther design, i think you will find many other choppers, jets, tanks etc are very much influenced by other designs.

But ye, I would have to agree the external differences are soo small between the PLA Z-10 (I think) that it would be a hell of alot more efficient for you guys just to reskin it and use whats there, instead of spending 100s of man hrs on modelling, uving, exporting, coding and skinning when you only need to do 1 of thous areas (since all the rest is already done) and work on some other vehicle that is not in game and has no good place holders and is more critical than a attack chopper, something like a car, APC or something? Then if there are noticeable external differences you can add them on as extra child models.

For example OPK made a nice German Tornado IDS, but we needed a RAF Tornado GR4, which they are basically the same jet, with a few external differences but nothing HUGE that would stop us using it. So first thing we did was reskin it to look like a RAF tornado, then I modeled the extra differences which was mainly the storm shadow that fits under the left wing, and then modelled some extra targeting pods which where part of the GR4 upgrade. I skinned them myself and got geze to help me clean up the stormshadow skin a little, then I attached them onto the tornado via a child object, all sorted. Now you wouldn't be able to tell it started off as a Tornado IDS..

Thou the really good thing is now the German forces mod can also use the same tornado mesh, just give it back the old IDS skin, remove the extra parts I put on and add back on the bits they need, then have there tornado in game, all fully coded etc with only adding the new texture files to the mod, a cloned mesh, and that's it.

Its all about managing man hrs etc and doing the stuff what is needed the most and has no good place holders.

Yeah, the prototype Apache first flew in 1975, whilst the A-129 wasn't even in the design stages until 1978 and first prototype didn't fly until 1983, by which point the Apache was in full production.

The Apache has the basics of Mangusta.
They also have the same type of armament.

Mangusta : EU
Apache : US

Let's not start this. The A129 is in BF2 as already stated so there really is no need for a second model.

The Apache was build earlier, it is cheaper, it's faster, has a bigger gun (30mm vs 20mm) with more rounds and can carry more types of missiles than the Mangusta.

So, how could the Mangusta be better than the Apache?

The mangusta have :

8× AGM-114 Hellfire, BGM-71 TOW or Spike-ER or AIM-9 Sidewinder anti-tank missiles and Hydra Rocket.
4-8× AIM-92 Stinger or Mistral anti-aircraft missiles

Yeah.. 20 mm but is not Handicap
My concept is that: More expensive is a thing and more is better.
- Lucas Chin turret mounting a 12,7 mm machine-gun.

- AIM-9 Sidewinder.

- AIM-92A Stinger.

- AGM-114A Hellfire.

- Hydra 70 rockets.

- MATRA Mistral air-to-air missile.

- TOW II air-to-ground missile.

- Hot II air-to-ground missile.

- Sura D 81mm rockets.

- Snora 81mm rockets.

- Hydra 70 rockets.
