New sound when moving
Hey everyone,
a few days ago I watched a gameplay footage of battlefield bad company and was impressed with the sound you hear while you walk.
YouTube - bf:bc gameplay
I know you guys got a new sound guy but is there anyway he can do something like this as well? There are the little metal sounds of those clips and nades banging together and hes steps and clothes hear much more real. Instead of just hearing on what surface you step
From aprox: 3 minute in the video you can hear the sound im talking about. Hes going for a long sprint/run

I think this is a neat idea. If it isnt to much trouble it would be really nice to have some strong, sharp sounds while running/walking.

Too loud in my opinion.
1. If I'd want to walk silent, I would be able to, so I could sneak upon enemies.
2. If I run I don't hear boom boom boom boom..

Cause in battlefield bad company, they all weight about 120 kg, that's why it does boom boom boom...
But, even if it looks good, it's not very realistic, it made a hollywood style, not a realistic style!!

Re: New sound when moving
Well when I played airsoft on my military boots I sure as hell stomped like that when I sprinted for cover! And I was just wearing a military jumpsuit kinda thing. Not a uniform with rucksack, grenades dingling, ammo shaking, canteen, knife, etc etc.
Maybe on of the military men could come here and tell us how they sound. If thats to loud make a better one but I do like the sound of your equipment. Thats was my main goal of this topic. See how the devs think about this.

I just said that if I'd really try to make no sound, I wouldn't have to make sound.cyberzomby wrote:Well when I played airsoft on my military boots I sure as hell stomped like that when I sprinted for cover! Plus you can't sneak in BF2, except for going reallllly slow and prone.

Yea ofcourse. But if you want to sneak than you dont go as fast as the sprint. If making a sound for this mod is as easy as just compiling stuff in a mp3 of wav I'd be happy to try some stuff out btw.

Re: New sound when moving
I think the sound you make while moving is related to the terrain type. Example: walking on dirt in BF2 will have a different sound when walking on leaves that are part of the terrain brush.
So, you'd have to replace the sound for each terrain type, and I'm not sure if that's possible.
It could be a welcome change.

Yeah I like that a lot. Put 40-60lbs of gear and you really aren't going to be very quiet whilst running around...slow walk sure but not running. We have to many guys sprinting through CQB as it is, I wouldn't mind hearing these footsteps in 3rd person too. Anything to encourage a more realistic CQB. I also like the view-bob that all the new games have...it reduces the "floating hockey puck" syndrome. I know someone said they got motion sick but it seems like most of the new titles have implemented it with success.

Re: New sound when moving
Any soldier running around with grenades jangling and mess tins clanging deserves to be shot. Military discipline instils the need for minimal noise when on the battlefield.
Grenade pins swinging in the wind are just calling to be pulled out by a branch, then Mr Grenade is not our friend.
Changing footsteps in PR would be nice to match the environment, crunch of gravel or the swish of long grass would be great but a low priority.

Yeah, agreed on the floating hockey puck thing too. I honestly don't see an excuse not to have camera movement if possible, though some... I'm tempted to say noobs... whine about it with bad excuses like it messes them up.VipersGhost wrote:Yeah I like that a lot. If it makes you sick you shouldn't be playing video games.

Re: New sound when moving
yeah i agree with you winters, in the military, though they do carry alot of gear which would make them weigh a lot, everything is strapped down with ducttape, no rattle. if anything rattles it's likely you'll be ordered to unpack and repack. the only real sound you should hear is your boots on the ground and even then you should only hear it when you sprint. if your doing regular walk you should not hear the footstepswinters101 wrote:Cause in battlefield bad company, they all weight about 120 kg, that's why it does boom boom boom...

Yea I know the sarge's and sergeant majors ( Generation Kill anyone ) tell you to not ringle and tingle and glitter but keep in mind this is while they are running there *** off! I cant imagine anything not tingling when you run for your life. If you run normaly ( press W without sprint ) than you wont get this sound.

I don't think the jungle is neccessary...just the boot thumping and general movement sound. View bob as well. I think it'd definitely give a more organic feel to the soldiers instead of the same old same old.
