Gore Levels in PR

Post by Beafy »

By the way, i did use serch and i saw no threads sctully posing about it.

Anyway, what do the PR community think about gore, personally i think it sould be like saving pvt.Ryan/CS:S tipe gore, as in, if you get hit by C4 you get blow to kindgom kong and your body parts go flying etc, what do you think?

Note: im not sure if the BF2 engine can change your model when you die to a ragdoll that turns into seprate parts, but ill ask around :D .

Search for blood instead, one of those threads touches on this topic,

And I don't think the gore level should be upped
1) because newer engines do it so much better
2) PR has so much work yet to get to 1.0 that trying to get gore in would slow it down
3) Blood was removed for good reasons, and If this cannot be done properly I doubt that the kind of gore you suggest is possible

What would gratuitous amounts of gore add to GAMEPLAY?

Its a game. A tactical game. With teamwork. And realistic weapons. Sure. But there is no need for that much violence, since the game is not about the people suffering, or civilians being blown to pieces, but about the tactical part of fighting.

gore would be nice, but I know it is impossible with the BF2 egine. It could be like Red Orchestra gore.

Imagine the extra unneeded lag with all that blood splatter and bits of people flying across the field. A "novelty" at first, then you'll get used to it.

Maybe it does add to realism, but blood was removed from PR in .7(? Definitely .756) because of hit reg. People would fire, see blood, but the bullet didn't register, deceiving players. Now we have puffs of dirt/sand instead, the style from BF2.

Also, there was disproportion with the blood. If you shoot someone in the leg, would their be the same amount from a chest shot? Some engine hindrances prevented a realistic output.

I'm not sure if it's possible to make people blow into bits, considering that the BF2 engine uses ragdolls ad death animations..

if you think about it when you get hit in the chest you wouldnt see any blood fly at all probably you would see all the dirt and stuffflying off of your combat vest but thats about it untill later when the blood starts soaking through so it was unrealistic anyways.

Also i heard that it got(at least it added weight to why it should be removed)removed due to Germany's insane gore restrictions laws on games. True or not?

They had that in mind when removing it i guess, but it wasnt the very reason. They said its too unrealistic, probably because, like you said, you wouldnt always see much blood, and because of the hit registration stuff.

Flying body parts would just look bad on an engine like BF2. There wouldn't really be any blood, just a bunch of arm and leg shaped models flying around.

Hehe, some really old games had gore like that with just plain body parts going about. It was so cheesy.

I think I saw it somewhere that blood was removed due to the kind of gear soldiers wear these days...but I might have seen that somewhere else and make a PR link to it in my brain bookmarks.

But I wouldn't mind seeing a small puff of blood when you get a head shot...no need for legs flying around. But just a little bit of mist when you get a head shot would be great.

I wouldnt mind seeing it back again, tbh.

Mist is ok, but what i was aiming for was blood and guts gore like, WAHHHHHHHH tipe gore, where people gut blown to S*** but C4, then you see red mist and dirt, followed by a leg coming down and hitting you in the head -15 Hp.

Simply put, the engine does not support any kind of gore that is worth having, its not the source engine, alas.

If you want good gore, play DoD Source or something :p

Or Hidden Source, the mod which is a gorefest (You sort of eat corpses too :p )

I think its better as it is now, not worth having blood mist, just looks rubbish.

YouTube - Shooter - Sniper scenes

I wouldn't mind seeing the type of mist at 29 seconds into the clip.

I think we should definately have blood on headshots (if is posible with the current engine) also... we have this nice bleeding effect when incapacitated... but, where is all de blood that spills out of the body? We should have some blood on the streets floor from hit players.

would it not be possible to just enable a bit more dust/smoke to be visible when a bullet hits and then change the colour so it looks like mist?

This is a response from a very good friend of mine currently deployed at the moment.
I've said it once, I've said it twice, I'll say it again... the only people that want to see gore are those that haven't seen it before.

And, though this will sound contradictory to what I just said, a great number of gunshot wounds do not bleed as much as you might think. (as a generalization)
