More support for Mods coming soon?

Post by Gaz »

EA_Community_Update
Attention Soldiers!

We are excited to introduce Colin Clarke as the new DICE Community Manager. Colin is a long term veteran of the Battlefield franchise with extensive experience with both client and server aspects of the game. With this appointment we will be increasing our support of player communities, mod communities and also player events! We are also excited to note that this change will also enable our own AJ Marini to focus his comprehensive skills entirely on further enhancements to the Battlefield experience! Keep your eyes on this space for more information!

Until next time, Cheers from the Battlefield team!
I have highlighted the sentance that got my attention ;) So what do you think this means? Updated editor to build AI code?

Thoughts welcome. Please leave the EA and DICE bashing at the door.

Dont worry about that part six7. BF2142 will be just another Mod for the BF engine, just like Special Forces Expansion.

While this is definately good news, I'll hold back judgement until I see some results.

There was [EA]LBrown on the editor forums for a while, and he had a similar role (regarding mods) as this guy will from the sounds of it. The problem with LBrown was he tried to help, but he was always "waiting on more information" from DICE whenever something was asked about or requested. Eventually his job was cut and it appeared EA had given up on helping mods. So, I am looking forward to more involvement from EA, but at the same time I don't feel this is anything new. Maybe second time's the charm.

So they chopped the job role (I remember when they did tbh). Then they re-instated it? Surely that's bound to be a step in the right direction anyway. Maybe they realised their mistake? For all the bad things said about DICE and EA, I havesuffered worse from a certain games developer that made Call of Duty & Call of Duty 2. They never talked to the community, never released any modding apps, and never were seen to generally give a stuff once they had released the game. That made me so angry, as I lived and breathed that game. I was the head admin for the game at a large Euro ladder, and the frustration from the community and myself made me quit the job, as I couldn't do a thing to counter their actions.

I know a lot of people compare EA/DICE to the levels that Valve go to in post-release support for their games, but that's unrealistic. Valve have a stunning work ethic/model, where the games players they attract are kept enthralled by the additions and constant efforts to improve the games they release. I just compare EA/DICE to Infinity Ward, and EA/DICE ALWAYS comes up smelling of roses!

This is bound to be good news, although we will have to bide our time to see if the new posting is worth the announcement :) I for one hope it will.

The most promising thing I've seen though is that this time he's from Dice, not EA. Hopefully that will mean he'll have more idea what's going on, and be in more of a position to help with things and answer questions.
