PR to become AA?
I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but I really feel like PR is turning into the America's Army mod for BF2. The menu, the 3d sights, the pistols (they even sound the same!). If you've played AA you know what I'm talking about. Only difference between PR and AA that I can think of is that you can respawn and there are more vehicles.
Of course, I don't think this is a bad thing, I just think it is odd (I can't tell if I like it or not yet, but I'm pretty sure I like it). Anyone else have a response?

I mean, this is a realism mod, right? And AA is the epitome of realism?
But srsly, except for the fact that teams play as the team, not all teams playing as the US (what a great idea!) The menu looks nothing the same....
At least, IMO.

PR looks like BF2 not like AA. The reason I left AA was the lack of weapons and vehicles + much more that is to be find in PR. Only thing that attracted me to AA was the SF maps.

America's Army is not the epitome of realism. That title goes to either Operation Flashpoint or Armed Assault. I have played America's Army since it's launch in 2002 and have been playing Flashpoint for about 3-4 years now and ArmA since it's launch. America's Army doesn't even hold a candle light to those games.
Armed Assault with the right mods is just insane, if you want simulation get that game and go to the ArmA forums and search for the right mods. It does take a higher end computer to run it though if you want to enjoy all that it has to offer with max settings and AA+AF. There's actually something called VBS2 that is based off of ArmA's game engine and it is used for training. It's expensive as hell though, weighing in at a hefty $1,500.

America's Army is based on one of the worst game engines for realism imaginable - Unreal 2.
Battlefield 2, at least, is more modern and better suited for a realism mod than Unreal 2 could ever be, but still very difficult to work with and around. ArmA's game engine, on the other hand, is perfectly suited for mods such as Project Reality.

Last time I checked VBS2 was a seperate engine. There was OFP that VBS and ArmA were based off. ArmA was based off the OFP engigne, just jazzed up with better graphics -.-dyscr33t wrote: There's actually something called VBS2 that is based off of ArmA's game engine and it is used for training. Both ArmA and VBS2 run on the Real Virtuality 2 engine (just as OFP and VBS1 ran on Real Virtuality 1).
ArmA2 will use Real Virtuality 3.

OK, besides the fact that you all obviously hate AA and the fact that I'm not talk about the engines at all - It feels like AA. Seriously, think about when you held a pistol in AA, it's just like PR now.
And the menu's so look the same! AA's like the only game besides PR 0.8 that has vertical buttons on the left side. Case in point, 0.8 does not feel like BF2 or 0.75.
By the way, you guys are pretty hard on AA. It some free game developed by the US Army as free propaganda for kids. Get it? F-R-E-E. Besides, I always liked AA. I mean the engine's crappy, but the gameplay wasn't bad. Especially since Snakeplain. (Despite the fact that I've uninstalled it and I haven't played AA since about last winter)

Hes talking about animations, sound, and general feeling you get after playing it. I feel its a bit like insurgency in that aspect.

tbh AA was a pretty terrible attempt at realism. Sure, you have to do a hundred things to get driving in a HMMVW, but at what point do you add **** like 'K to fasten seatbelt' instead of a implementing a better HUD?
PR v0.8 to me is more realistic than AA ever was.

...
This thread is made of... well... hilarity? Everyone's got different reasons for saying it's like a different game - AA, ArmA, Insurgency Mod...
Which would suggest to me that it's not entirely like any of them, and what PR is really like is...
PR.

Exactly, and that is why most people would gladly pay for this as a full game.'[R-DEV wrote:Masaq;785561']...

Re: PR to become AA?
I do agree that ArmA will be good to build PR on. I play ArmA and it is damn realstic and the islands you can play on are fantastic. There is one called Sakaha Al Jewf. It is the PERFECT insurgency map and it's bloody huge, about the size of 2.5 kashans.
But saying that, the DEVs would have a lot of work to do because ArmA lacks decent Brit weapons. All other armys would be fine but not brits. We'd need to get weapons, units, cars, tanks, planes, choppers the whole damn lot would need to be made by the DEVs. Plus they'd have to learn how to ArmA scrpit.
And the damn game is laggy if you don't play on Sakkah al Jewf. (game makers put to meny trees on woodland island)

Ok, I agree with Masaq. This is getting out of hand. I just thought the menus and pistols felt alike.
