Birth of a new job - supply convoy driver?
This thing crossed my mind when playing mutrah city as mec. Many people just move the supply truck somewhere and leave it, then the mec troops keep walking from the main for the rest of the game. This, combined with a fact that supply boxes are no longer a miraculous self replenishing source of ammo, created a strong need for fast transportation and supply delivery. I did try to take a truck and serve as a counterpart for the US hueys and little birds but not many people did understand what I wanted to do, walking outside the main, ignoring the truck or ignoring my questions about target location.
It would be cool if there was always a convoy squad with one vodnik and one supply truck moving people around. They should travel together as I got shot few times when driving the truck alone. + it's better to loose 2 guys in the vodnik (that drives 1st) than a truck full of troops when the road is mined. Squad leaders can request supply drops so it should be easy for the convoy to see where they are needed.
btw, what is the max number of supply crates / vehicle?

I have actually done that before on Al Basrah map, that map suffers a lot of transport issues despite being so small (mostly due to idiots). I would have 1 truck at my disposal and 2 land rovers to keep up safe. The last person could ride anywhere and when we came across an abandoned vehicle he would jump in there and we bring it back to the base. We weren't doing just that of course though, there was plenty of firebase building and extracting people but it did take people some time to catch on the idea of land transport.

I've tried to do this on multiple occasions, and nobody on a public server really seems to care enough to give me a hand.

As long as you have an escort and stick to the side roads this is probably more safe than using choppers. Good to see someone taking advantage of the new features.

Since we don't have the truck mother spawner of a CP anymore, this job is very important as the trucks get abandoned (which is understandable as people still think we have the afore mentioned truck mother spawner of a CP)

I'd love to see dedicated supply trucks drivers just like transport helicopters pilots but it doesn't seem very popular.
Some very important job are hard to do. As for exemple, very few infantry knows how to properly use air support with smoke and marker. Most of the time you gotta find the target by yourself.

Most cases, brilliant plans are only worked out if you explain every grating detail, and even then, they could be skeptical.gclark03 wrote:I've tried to do this on multiple occasions, and nobody on a public server really seems to care enough to give me a hand.
Hopefully it'll catch on in public play. Sounds like a nice job for the team.

I would definitely love to try to get this action going next time I play. Perhaps I'll form up a squad and hopefully get this working in pub play.

Did this in Korengal Valley, had a convoy of two hummers
Did one escort run with a supply truck, because getting an FB setup on that map is NOT easy!
I like logistics becoming part of the game though.

If I see one of these squads I will definitely join, if not I'll have to make one myself... This would work well with an APC also (probably better, if you are just transporting), then you can leave the vodnik and supply truck for other uses.

Ditto! I did this a few times. I never transported a full squad. Only bunch of people that randomly spawned at main. I helped out the CO build firebases and repair an APC thats about it.gclark03 wrote:I've tried to do this on multiple occasions, and nobody on a public server really seems to care enough to give me a hand.
EDIT:
Didnt knew the trucks didnt spawn at main anymore! Like some people said: This job will be more important than! Will probably do this as soon as I install .8 ( Spore took away my PR attention

-If you want to do these kinds of jobs then join my LOGISTICS squad. I usually play on Thor's Brigade Muttrah 24/6 and I will today(In about 1 hour). Either that or the VOIP INF squad.

did this before 0.8 came out. I created a squad called "bus driver" and delivered Crates and walkers to the front, now it is a more important job.

The job kinda started when mobile Spawnpoints (APC as spawnpoint) were removed.Teek wrote:did this before 0.8 came out. I created a squad called "bus driver" and delivered Crates and walkers to the front, now it is a more important job.![]()

Re: Birth of a new job - supply convoy driver?
I must say, I've never done a dedicated busing squad, but on Ramiel it can be so fun doing convoys around the map to set up FB's. I'm usually a squad leader on Insurgency (due to most people not knowing how to play the game type well) and when US my squad will take 1 humvee with 2 people and 1 supply truck with 4 (provided other squads don't need a vehicle, which more often then not, is the case since everyone runs to the choppers). I let the Humvee go first and follow about 50 feet behind in the truck, letting the Humvee be IED bait basically.
I tend to play Muttrah alot, so I think I might try doing this sometimes.

Everyone wants to easily kill their opponent but nobody wants to be the one easily killed. That line of thinking escalates weaponry to the point where practically every soldier has a shoulder-mounted nuke launcher that when fired, automatically displays the text "pwnt".- [R-CON]Wolfe

Re: Birth of a new job - supply convoy driver?
I tried doing this once and it didn't turn out well. I (and my buddy who tags along a lot) wanted to try spending the round transporting, resupplying, and building FOPs. After five minutes our team was getting crushed, so we gave it up to help on defense.
I'd like to try it again, but it seems like something difficult to orchestrate on the average public server, and often it would be more beneficial to have our firepower on the front lines.
