How exactly does one use the cell phone to call in the mortar strikes? Also, how do you know when the support abilities are ready? Would be nice to get some kind of message at the 30 min mark or whatever.

You do it exactly the same way you do it with the laser designator. Right click, and then use the secondary commo rose (the one which usually has the options for limited kits; I don't remember the default).

Commander can tell you when the mortar strikes are ready. You need him there to approve them anyway, so just get him to tell you.

Ok; can I expect to see the green target box indicator like I do for the laser des? I don't remember seeing any indicator, which is why I was confused.

well seeing how you're on a cellphone i wouldn't imagine you would..

I think you have to be a squad leader and a civilian to do this and even then Ive not seen it work.
Managed to call in mortars as miltia yesterday though (officer, binos, comms), that was good

not really if you think about it, (from what I've read) insurgents set up mortar, fire off some rounds, then they do as the american's say; the 'hightail it outta there' cuz there are alot of pissed off americans/brits looking for them. They set up in new location some time later and rinse and repeat.

the explosions are WAAAAAAAAAY too big to be mortars, even 120MM mortars.

I'd expect those from a 203MM russian artillery shell.
