Server lag or pc lag?

Post by sittingduck911 »

i was playing on a US server the last night with Voip, and it was wierd the map was Ramiel and we where flying around in a blackhawk giving cover fire no more than 100 to 150ft up and there was a weird lag happening map jumping accross screen, I was running fraps and it told me i was at 70PFS all on high view distance maxed out and i had cars and people not appearing until i was almost right obove them. This made it extreamly hard to spot or cover the other squads.
Is this server lag, pc lag or just the norm?
Any ideas?

sounds like it was either the server or your internet connection.

Does anybody else get a serious frame rate drop on Tad Sae when firing a chinese rifle on full auto when using iron sights?

The first time I thought it was extremely unlucky timing of server lag, the second time I was suspicious and the third left me dead.

The rest of the map doesn't lag at all (or any other map or kit either). I need to investigate if is just the iron-sight rifleman (in full auto) or is it map specific, or what...

Anyone else?

Remember that it can be caused by hardware on your end even when you have a high FPS - for example if the graphics card can cope fine but you don't have enough RAM to be running at the settings you are.

In general, with network lag the terrain and statics will appear smooth as usual, but you'll get jerky or unnatural movement from players and vehicles. If the whole thing is jerky, the problem is entirely your end.

The easy way to tell what's wrong is by lowering the graphics settings. First shove everything down significantly (e.g. all the way to low) and play a bit to see if that fixes it. If it does, put them back up to where they were before and lower them individually, watching for any improvement. You may need to lower more than one setting to get it right, but without knowing your system specs, current graphics settings and severity/type of your problem I can't tell you what - just play around with them a bit and find what works for you. PR in general does have slightly higher resource usage than vanilla, so you will probably find you need to run on slightly lower settings.

Yes alot of people are having trouble with Ramiel, check the feedback section for it. I think it has something to do with the servers.

well i think it wasthe US server i was playing on as far as the jumpiness goes, i played on a AUS server last night with a ping of only 56 and it didnt have the jumpiness as the other server so it could have come down to my ping on the US server, but i was still having the same issue of cars and ppl not spwning in/ appearing till i was almost right above them when in a copper. my Rig is almost brand new and im only running XP, intel Q6600, 2gig ddr2 800 ram, nvidia 8600gt 512 card.

Ramiel Lag?

Had the same problem, just lowered my textures to medium and that fixed it.

Well, if you want to try and mess around with your graphic settings, checkout this page TweakGuides.com - Battlefield 2 Tweak Guide
Explains what the settings actually do.
Maybe it will help you.
