Confusion About Medic

Post by TheAmazingYant »

I've been having a few problems playing as a medic in .8. I have plenty of experience from .6 and .7, but the new version has left me confused. Basically guys have been revivable who did not have the red "wounded" icon over their bodies. Is this related to the length of time a player can stay wounded, and their ability to "give up" and respawn? Add that to the tendency for bodies to get stuck in the ground and/or turn translucent, and I've burned through 3 or 4 injections on some soldiers - and sometimes the forth one managed to bring them back.

So is there a good way to identify guys who can be revived even if their "wounded" icon is gone?

In addition, what's the difference between CPR and the injectors?

CPR is to get bodies unstuck from buildings and such and the injectors just revive like the shock paddles.

Lol, people are freakin out over it but it's the exact same as before. The wounded icon not showing up for some crit wounded people was in the last version too. :\

Injector = shock paddle

The CPR move is the same thing as throwing a bandage on the body before trying to revive, except you dont use up a bandage ;)

The icon not showing is due to the whole length of time you can stay wounded. Basically, if you see the icon, go for it, if you dont, maybe try once...

BUT, if they are in your squad, talk to them, ask what state they are in, etc.

Sucks you dont always know, but tbh it doesnt come up too often. If the body is not clear at all, go for a revive.. that's what I do, I play mostly medic.. probably 90% of the time.

Speaking of that, i assume you cant increase the time kits will stay on the ground ? I'm almost sure the "hardcoded" word is around there but i would only want a confirmation... Because i've been revived quite a few times now only to see me back with my spawning kit... ;)

Man, I had a guy like you who didn't know the difference either, kept doing CPR on me for over a minute, all the while I'm typing "USE THE EPIPEN!!!!" cause he wasn't in my squad. Eventually one of my squad makes picked up a Chinese medic kit and revived me.

The kit problem was noted during testing, so it is at least known about among the DEV team. But as far as it being hardcoded[or just plain hard] I can't say cuz I just dont know.

My guess is that its being looked into, but thats only a guess :)

But it IS known about, so if it doesnt get fixed... one can assume its just not doable[probably]

@Darktrooper, unfortunately we didn't find a way to keep kits more than 30s on the ground. :(

The icon of wounded not showing on the hud happens sometimes when you were outside of the viewing range of nametags. Also if the player doesn't have any more "Medic!" clicks left (max of 2), the icon will eventually disappear.

Tip: right-click on the GIVE UP button to send a "Need Medic" call. This was an experiment we added in a test build and we forgot to remove or do something better with it for release. Basically we wanted to give the player more opportunities to call for medic while wounded.

So dropped kits can't last any more than 30s in the BF2 engine? :(

I thought kit time could be adjusted, because the Insurgent Civilian's kit appears only for a brief second after death. But I'm sure you guys already know that, of course.

Awesome, I didn't know about the whole right clicking to get more medic calls :)

Always learn somethin' new. Does it also renew the marker on the map/HUD?

It's not a requirement. Basically the epipen injector works the same as the original shock paddles. What CPR does is get the wounded player "unstuck" from the ground, which in some situations can make him easier to revive. Formerly the only way to "unstick" a player was to drop a first aid kit on them.

So for the record, CPR is not necessary in all cases, but with the extended wounded times there is no reason not to give it a try. A couple hits with the CPR can save you a couple of injectors.

Plus, it feels really cool: "Live, damn you! Liiiiiivvvvveeee!!!!!!"

Didn't they make it that all the corpses "stick" now ? So that CPR has a point ?

I dunno. I only use CPR maybe 50% of the time and my injections work well enough.

Using CPR for ages... classic..., good story there..

Its a bit like this when you play with Tbone, Wormeaten, or Natala and you are trying to get Rank or Squidy or Mongol up from one of their "ok i killed 10 guys but i'm dead now"

"BREEAAAATHEEE!"

YouTube - Best Revive Scene Ever LOL

I'm so going to use this audio for a PR movie. I dare someone to beat me to it. I will applaud you for doing it!

"NOOOO she has a strong heart she wants to LIVEE!"

"GOD DAMN it you ***** you never backed away from anything in your life, now FIGHT FIGHT FIIIIGHT"

classic stuff.

I almost miss the shock paddles, perhaps we can have that as another weapon option, perhaps you need to use them in a certain order?

Just don't use too much epinephrine...

I thought cpr was required to make the injectors work. So basically if the body isnt stuck in an odd location or at an phony angle I can use the injectors straight away ?

Yes. Exactly.

ALTHOUGH, with the added man down time you have PLENTY of time, so personally I do CPR once every time just to sort of make sure and keep myself in a rhythm.... besides, it adds to the atmosphere ;) I also do the whole "You'll Live buddy, now get back to the fight" audio cue from the com rose for that extra little medic 'OOmph' ;)

2, 6, 4. I think that's the keypad combo for CPR, EpiPen, MedicBag. [been trying to get quicker with kits I use more frequently]
