For the devs - What have you learnt?
This question is mainly for the devs.
Now that .8 has been out a couple of weeks now, I've been reading plenty of comments regarding this version (which btw I think is the best yet) about this and that, such as rallys being too easy to find, sprint times, weapons deviation, animations, gameplay etc.
There are one or two things I'd perhaps change, but there are plenty of other threads to air my views, this is not the place.
What I'd like to know is what you think has gone down well, and what has gone down not so well.
And if anything, what has been a disaster?
And finally, what didn't make it into .8 that you wish you had included, and what idea's are you glad you excluded?
Please don't see this as angling for a changelog, I'm sure the last thing you want is yet another thread about what's going to be in the next version question.
I'm just curious about how you guys who make it all happen think now it's out of it's beta testing and people have had a chance to play it.

Re: For the devs - What have you learnt?
yes we have many thoughts about what we would like to change and ideas on how to change them for the better, and ideas on things we would like to do differently, and even ideas on complete new stuff to give a new dimension to the mod.
But we are not going to tell you what any of them are

Re: For the devs - What have you learnt?
we do, once we are 100% sure with what we are going with and got it working ingame and know it is going to be in next release.=BMI=Richy wrote:maybe telling us some of these gameplay changes in the dev journal may be better than showing us new models ( i know a few changes were show, but not many)
If we spoke out now, like at the moment we are thinking about overhauling one aspect of our gameplay, we have like 50 ideas in the pool of what we want to do, if we posted them all up in the dev journal, what would we get? some disappointed players at the most.
If we change something for certian, we will let you know before release, epically the big aspects like the Medic overhaul system etc like we did before .8's release.

The DEVs should wait atleast a month before considering doing serious changes to gameplay IMHO.

however, this feedback would be from people who have never even seen the changes ingame. Most of the time you need to play play play and play a bit more before you can really give a proper feedback about certain changes.=BMI=Richy wrote:

Re: For the devs - What have you learnt?
there was alot of gameplay changes which are good, but maybe a "gameplay test" like the stress test before release, same players as stress testers if needed, to give feedback on gameplay alot

What went well? Releasing v0.8.
What went poorly? Allowing whiners to constantly complain about gameplay before they gave it a fair chance.
Next time expect much less support for those that claim the mod is doomed after playing it for a couple hours...

i personaly thought the open beta ( a few releases ago ) was a great idea, perhaps this idea may be entertained for future releases.

I think closing the forums the day after release would be a good idea...yes the whole thing entirely.

Re: For the devs - What have you learnt?
The open beta for v0.6 did more damage than good, for v0.8 we did a load of "stress testing", where a bunch of selected dedicated forum members where offered to take part. This worked out much better than the Open Beta like we had in v0.6 cos we got the same pluses of OB testing ie, being able to see how the gameplay goes with a full server etc, with also not allowing every man and his dog to download it from anywhere making most people only download the buggy beta, and not the full release.'[DVB wrote: Avalon.ca;796711']i personaly thought the open beta ( a few releases ago ) was a great idea, perhaps this idea may be entertained for future releases.
Since v0.8 Stress Testing went so well we will probably be doing it for future releases too.

I agree with Avalon the 0.6 OB was great and if the RC (1?) was the actual release[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:The open beta for v0.6 did more damage than good, for v0.8 we did a load of "stress testing", where a bunch of selected dedicated forum members where offered to take part. that would have been a killer. However one thing I noticed is that things get changed
in between the official release and the last "beta" test. That was the case last year and
from what I hear (from the beta testers) a few things were changed as well this time.
0.8 is not "issue" free the way I see it,if it was.. well it's a different subject.
Anyway don't get me wrong, I do love it.

Re: For the devs - What have you learnt?
What Have I learned? (your title)
- A bit about world wide operations along with time zones, staying up until 4am to chat with rhino becomes taxing.
- DDS formats
- Other users computers and playability
- The meaning of a Windows 0X0000008E error
- Scale Scale Scale "Thats pretty badass"
What Have I learned from the feedback and forums after a few weeks?
- Only complainers complain. I hear allot of bad mouthing about the mod but in game that mode changes to :
"WOW you guys did a great job"
"Changes are changes and people will learn or patches will be made"
"hey can I join your squad?"
"I thought you said your computer couldn't run Korengal at all, you even wrote a ***** thread about it?"
"Ohhh uhh well its still playable, I really like it"
What has gone well?
For me at least seeing Korengal played and with a full server
Watching people really love the slowed down pace of the game. So many "Finally its not BF2 like"
To tell you the truth the team was going to let the forums run wild for a few week, in fact banning most team members away from the forums because people will ***** ***** ***** and ***** some more on something they don't know about.
I would say for the next version the forums should be shut down and only contain bugs and technical fourms for a few weeks, and enforce a strick temp ban on anyone who starts trouble and posts in the wrong area. Good for you I dont make the rules
