[HUD] A Re-Design [WIP]

Well I've noticed that the HUD stayed more or less the same other than the compass from .75 to .8 but I thought it could be revamped a bit more.

I'm not sure how much is hardcoded in terms of VoIP and parachute/repair etc buttons but it would be nice to get away from some of the vanilla-like icons.

This is what I have come up with so far; the weapon backgrounds, parachute and VoIP icons have been changed so far with more to follow such as repair/heal etc buttons.

This is still a Work In Progress and I have no idea how to code this so it can be used in game so if anyone is able to tell me how to code it so it can be used in a pr_edit I would be grateful. I think however that the VoIP and parachute icons are a bit too glossy however as they are points of interest on the HUD this draws attention to them.

--DISCLAMER--

The arrow on the HUD showing a 'move to' position was not made by me it is the default PR/BF2 icon and the VoIP button uses a default shape from Adobe Photoshop CS2 and will be changed over time.

Looks cool. I don't see anything wrong with what we have now, but whatever. Don't forget the compass.

Neither do I, but change can be nice.

Compass is going to come later probably with new 'attack' and 'defend' markers.

Nice initiative, however remember..

Good design is seamless and goes unnoticed. Bad design sticks out like a sore thumb.

I support this idea 100%. Keep working at it and consult the DEVs until you arrive at, what im sure will be an awesome design.

Also you can try to make the huds for vehicles i.e aircrafts.

Looks good, however i think it is too similar to the current design, no big changes.

Be creative, see what you can do. Just remember to keep it clean, simple, and as un-intrusive as possible ;-)

Ok, I'll try and do a re-design that goes away from the current one.

What would people like to see more, a grunge HUD like rusted metal (much like the PR Dogtags) or a slightly glossy look like the VoIP and Parachute icon?

Well could we put it so Mags have a litle picture of a magazine?? That would be cool, but to be honest, I quite like the grungy stuff.

I'll try it but it would be extremely small and would make the magazine counter larger and PR should have a minimalistic HUD.

Oh one thing.. if you wish to change the 3D-HUD icons, they're in menu_client -> nametags
Also if you're gonna change the weapon select backgrounds, you will have to for all of the weapons and items, and possibly also redo the kit select screen as that follows on the same motif as the weapon selection.

In short, its no mean feat..

I'll give it a go when I've got a lot more spare time but with exams this year it looks like half-term in 7 weeks or so will be then. However I will keep going doing designs like this and slowly work on splitting it up.

Question: If I make a pr_edit mod so that I can change the icons without messing up PR, do I just have to make a new shortcut but change mods\pr to mods\pr_edit?

Question 2: In menu_client -> nametags all I see is minimap files containing the flags, how do I change weapon selection backgrounds etc? I think I've found ammo ones but lots of the files read "not found" in Photoshop, could this be because they need to be unzipped first?

is there any chance that you could just have the icons without thier backgrounds? I mean having no backgrounds on the weapon select and instead just the weapon image.

/Less clutter more PR me thinks.
