What went poorly? Allowing whiners to constantly complain about gameplay before they gave it a fair chance.

Next time expect much less support for those that claim the mod is doomed after playing it for a couple hours...
Just for the record, I think 0.8 is somewhere in between sex with an cheetah and all-you-can-eat-crab on the awesome scale. That's pretty far up there.

I would say for the next version the forums should be shut down and only contain bugs and technical fourms for a few weeks, and enforce a strick temp ban on anyone who starts trouble and posts in the wrong area. Good for you I dont make the rules :-D
I think that would/should be a legitimate strategy. All the bitching seriously devalues the hard work of all the DEVs and CONs, and some of the people on this forum need to realize that.

It's supposed to be a community. "Complaints" are feedback in the same way that "WOW you guys did a great job" is feedback. If people complain on the forum, then anyone and everyone can respond to that, which is a good way of sorting the BS from the valid points.
Imo it would be bad for the mod if only positive feedback was encouraged.
btw - WOW you guys did a great job! :p

Feedback is encouraged, its the "OK I haven't played the shitty mod yet but here is a professional list of 40 things I don't FUCKING like, oh and you guys are lazy I cant believe you realeased this like it is, god damn beta's" :-D

I little less bitching and a little more talking :-P

But that's not the point of the topic. What didn't make it? Ohhh we cant tell you that, but as always you guys will will be the second to know!

Like I said, I wasn't so much after knowing how you are going to change things, more just, what you think has not gone as well as expected? or, what has been even better than expected?
Or even, has there been more, less or about the average amounts of complaints you expected to hear?

Personally, I'd just like to thanks all of you dev's for a job well done in creating an amazing game, and when you get complaints from people and think to yourself's "is it worth all this hassle?", just remember "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time".
And remember that for every 1 whinger, there are 50 players who love it!

We usually do, so don't worry about that :) Anything before then is usually a critical patch for stability.

And btw, guys. "Bitching" and "Asskissing" are both feedback. Just because you like one of them better, doesnt make the other "wrong".

Yes, it does. And if you don't understand the differences between the two then I suggest that you not attempt either.

How is "This mod is awesome!" more feedback than "DM rifle deviation sucks!"

the difference is (IMO), one is playing to the ego of the intended target, the other can be seen as offensive to the people who spent a whole lot of time and energy to bring thier product to the public. the thought of no feedback at all is a little scary. its like the emperors new clothes.

feedback is good, it just has to remain constructive from the individuals that are offering it. and the people that are looking for quality assurance needs to be open minded enough to see where impovements need to be made.

bottom line, feed back needs to be objective rather than a personal attack. as long as both parties follow this idea feedback will always be positive. telling someone that "this F@#@en sucks" dose nothing but put folks on the defensive, and is counter productive.

Praise is a respectful affirmation that your goals were successful and thus doesn't require additional feedback.

Criticism is a respectful informative that your goals were not successful but only when it's accompanied by insightful and intelligent feedback with specifics on what could be done to make it better.

Saying "you suck" or "this sucks" or "thanks you idiot" is not feedback. It is not criticism. It's a purely emotional response used by those find it more pleasurable to destroy someone's work than to do any work themselves. It's a weak and childish tantrum undeserving of consideration.

This is exactly why Fuzzhead is right on the money; Feedback and suggestions should be locked for those who don't know how to think before they speak.

In that case bitching shows utter failure to reach those goals... Just because you like to hear "This mod rocks" more, doesnt mean that that feedback is helpful. Just by stating that the mod is great, the person doesnt say anything that is useful for further developement.

So saying that something is great without explaining is somehow more helpful than saying that something sucks without explaining?

Almost the same thing can be said about "Brown nosing" :p

Yeah. Or you can just delete posts you dont like and ban people who disagree?

Dont get me wrong, i love PR, and i appresiate all the work the DEVs have done, but some changes are VERY questionable. *Cough *cough your deviation model.

Wah - I think you've made your point - why push it?
I haven't read many of the feedback posts - I thought you guys were exaggerating, when you quoted some of the things people had said. Any kind of personal attacks, on work that the DEVs or CONs have done is disgraceful.
Its constructive criticism that I was defending in my earlier posts.
