Unrealistic vehicle sizes
I was going to put this in the 0.8 vehicle suggestion forum but then figured out this isn't particularly for 0.8. If the devs think so they can move it.
Have you ever noticed that vehicles are extremely small in comparison to the size of the players? A player is almost as tall as an APC for example, or a tank. In reality, an APC would be 1,5x my lenght at least. In reality, a tank is HUGE but in PR they're not even bigger than a regular car (compared to the player's size).
I've never been into any serious 3D-modelling but I believe it wouldn't be hard to just increase the size of the vehicles.
My questions are:
- Are the Devs aware of this, and even though have decided to keep the small sized vehicles?
- If the vehicles would increase in size, would you perhaps need to make adjustments to maps (make roads broader and so on) which could be a problem for not changing the size?
- Would this change be of the DEVs'/community's interest?

Yeah, you would have to make roads bigger, like on al basrah, the sandbag turning thing you have to go through, but i think its fine as it is personaly.

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
The only one of the tanks presented in PR that I've seen IRL is the T90. And, really, it didn't feel that much bigger than it does in the game.
But then I've heard that it should be a small tank compared to the ones used by the Western armies...

The only tank I've seen IRL is the Leopard 2 (the swedish edition) and it's huge.

Victory Parade on the Red Square this spring
Tourism in the Russian Federation = Military parades, the body of Vladimir Lenin and lots of vodka ^^
The T-90 can be compared with the -72 in size. Both they have a low profile and are small compared to many other modern tanks.

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
agree
BUT
afaik EA model sizes cannot be changed - legal ****
so, bigger/smaller means new models, and the team doesnt have time to do them all themselves really
I do know of one person that (for personal use) decreased the size of everything so that the maps seem bigger though

vehicles are not the problem , player models are , they are 2 m tall (t90 for comparation is 2.2 m tall,C2 2.5 m)

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
I think the problem is that Vbf2 tanks are in wrong sizes and b/c you cant edit VBF2 models they left the sizes as they are. So to make them bigger they have to remodel the Vbf2 tanks which is not a small job.

EA's vodnick and m1a2 are in their right scale for example (those where the only i exported to 3dmax ) so take them as a template to see if the other vehicles are in wrong scale .
im still thinking the players are just too tall

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
It was already said that all the vehicles in BF2/PR are scaled down, one of the vehicles in PR that was imported at 1:1 ratio is the Land Rover IIRC.
If you wanted 1:1 scale vehicles, you'd have to resize everything with it, else you'd have vehicles in the size of a house.

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
True. There's two ways of fixing this, either enlarge vehicle models or make player models smaller (to make vehicles look bigger). Question is though, how will buildings, trees, walls and other structures look like in comparison to the smaller player models? Aren't they already in proportion to the player models as they are?[R-CON]77SiCaRiO77 wrote:vehicles are not the problem , player models are , they are 2 m tall (t90 for comparation is 2.2 m tall,C2 2.5 m)
Imagine how complicated things sometimes are. Why couldn't you just select all objects the model is made of and then just press "Enlarge 3%" or something.'eztonia' wrote: ...

Sry The sentence came out wrong. They have to make new models b/c the cant edit the Vbf2 ones. Some copyright stuff or something.

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
How are you measuring them? I measured the soldiers to be ~1.62m high in the editor (See: http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd15 ... BOTTOM.jpg & http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd15 ... s1/TOP.jpg). Also there seems to be no scaling between the editor and in-game (to test just measure an object in the editor and use markers in-game to measure).[R-CON]77SiCaRiO77 wrote:vehicles are not the problem , player models are , they are 2 m tall (t90 for comparation is 2.2 m tall,C2 2.5 m)

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
Just to give some examples on how big the vehicles are in comparison to humans:
Stryker:

Abram tank (look at the guy to the left by the front, one wheel is like 1/2 or 1/3 of his body):

T90 tank:

XA180 (this is not in PR but I guess this size is somewhat standard for these kind of vehicles, look how tiny they look):

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
really i only have the problem with the abrams size.
everything else looks fine for what they are... even the striker... it's freaky too, when you see that gun appear over a small building XD

I was going to say that, in the editor you can see that the soldiers size is 2 meters.[R-CON]77SiCaRiO77 wrote:vehicles are not the problem , player models are , they are 2 m tall (t90 for comparation is 2.2 m tall,C2 2.5 m)

Re: Unrealistic vehicle sizes
i exported the bf2 soldier to 3dmax , and they where 20 "3dmax units" tall , and acording to some guy in bf2editor.org , 10 3dmax units= 1 meter in bf2 . and i think is true because i did the vodnik export with that in mind and ended "alright"'[R-CON wrote:nedlands1;799511']How are you measuring them?
