I can't post in suggestions section, so I'm putting this here.
The SL minimap markers are somewhat limited (move here, attack here, defend here). More specific instructions require VOIP, which is not uniformly used - possibly because of language barriers, timid squad leaders, or lack of positive feedback from squad members.
Some things that might allow a squad leader to give more specific minimap instructions without relying on VOIP:
1) Defensive "cone of fire" markers - instead of saying "defend here", say "Defend here facing west", or "move to this location and defend west"
2) Ability to place multiple simultaneous orders - "defend at point A facing west" along with "defend at point B facing south"
3) Squad member specific orders - Squad members are numbered, so if you have a 6 man squad, for instance mark "member 2 defend point A facing east", "member 3 defend point B facing south", "member 4 attack this point facing north (this also would infer which direction to attack from).
It seems like it might not be difficult to code, but might significantly limit the mother duck leading the duckling phenomenon.

Re: SL minimap icon suggestions

Re: SL minimap icon suggestions
Yep I like the idea of painting the map but this power lies with the commander now pretty much.
At the moment I find my squaddies ignore my attack marker and just follow me around which I repeatedly ask them not to do
I would like the contact report function to diversify. Tbh alot of people dont use the map enough, voip usually gets the point across though I agree with the op, map markers are my preference as I dislike telling people what they should do all the time.
This is why real troops are trained I guess
