Molotov bug

Post by Caboosehatesbabies »

I love the new Molotov, the skin, the fire effect, the stickiness, and the fact that it kills the crew of a vehicle if you stick it to it.

However, I noticed it doesn't give you credit for the kills you get when you kill crewmembers inside the vehicle. Is this intentional or a bug? It's a minor thing too, so it doesn't really need fixed it it's not a simple one.

Oh, and the Cell leader molotov needs it's flame animations, it can be fun to trap people in invisible fire, but it is pretty cheap and not fair.

i haven't noticed any invisible fire... oh wait...
i think you should have 2 grenades too. the molotovs are imo better than the grenades so it's boring to only have one.

Methinks they're jesting, seeing as you can't see invisible fire, ya see? :p

I've witnessed this after stealing the Insurgents officer kit, a bit of a shame, because the new animation/effect and flames are pretty cool to see. Fire fire!!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember molotov giving kill score in general. IIRC it's due to fact that BF2 engige takes fire as an element, a part of the map itself, instead of a weapon. Thus, if you get killed by fire it's the same as if you fall off from a cliff or similar, and thats why no one gets points for that.

Huh, I never noticed that....

In thinking about it, I'm sot sure. I've thought that when I've thrown a molotov into an occupied building, I got credit for the kills, but now I'm not so sure. I seem to remember kills being added, however, other times the totals in my head would be higher then what the scoreboard says, hmmmmm.

I SHALL HAVE TO TEST THIS!!!!

Ever noticed 50 sec spawntimes after killed by molotov? I've been there too many times, staring at my black screen and counting seconds.

that's a bigger bug imo...

Have you sat inside a CR2 or a scimitar?... Do that and youll realise that it'll take more than a bottle of petrol to cause you problems, the engine's nearly as hot as fire alone and the crew are inches away from that but the climate control keeps them chilled

Yeah, I know, but I see this as a gameplay thing more then a reality thing. I remember when .8 first came out, tanks and APC's would drive around Al Basrah with impunity because of the reduced number of RPG's (an ok thing in my mind) and the fact that they thought molotovs don't hurt them anymore. They quickly learned they were still were not invulnerable uber death dealers.

Until there is a way for the INS to disable vehicles without killing the crew (like have a grenade where if you hit the wheels or tracks of a vehicle, it has the chance of breaking it and have that effect stack at 50% chance until the vehicle is repaired [IE: Hit the wheels of a Styker with 1, 30% chance of doing it, 2, 45% chance, 3, 67% chance, 4, 100% chance {remember, they all have to hit the wheels}] the crew killing moltovs should stay.

I tested this too: sorry no bonus :(

I was an insurgent at Korengal today and spotted a lonely american hiking on hills near Laniyal. After short chase I managed to toss a molotov on him with expected results. After screams and fire worn out I picked up his kit and waited - but points never came. It was my first kill on the round so it was easy to monitor my kill count.

Not quite true
It is like the flame a supplyObject but the game does not think it is part of the map

The engine will give you a kill if you were the last one to 'injure' the person just like if someone bleeds out. So if you shoot someone and chuck a molotov on them you'll get a kill. If you shot someone whilst in a molotov. You'll get a kill. If your buddy shoots him and you molotov he'll get the kill and if you just hit him with a molotov whilst he is undamaged its similar to a supply crate falling on you in regular BF2.

From my experience anyway.

But if the one and only thing that takes out 100% of a players health is is molotov, then no one will get kill score.

It's also why they are the ragers weapon of choice since they can TK with them and not get punished. I think they should be removed if they cannot be fixed ( I know alot of hard work probably went into the model etc but...) Maybe there is a way to make them use an enduring explosion kill register and take the damage off the "fire".
