Give the commander the ability to lock kits.

Post by Cassius »

Is it possible to give the commander the ability to lock kits ? On fools road for example when you are british you do not want the HATs to be gone to squads who tag them along "just in case they run in the tank". You want the HAT assigned to an AT team soely focused on taking care of enemy armor else you get steamrolled.
I was thinking of making all the kits locked for like 2 min after round start so the CO has a chance to get in his shed without everything being issued and then having access to a pop up menue, where he can lock kits so that they become only avaiable if he grants the request.

There will be players who throw a fit of course, just like there are players who dont follow orders or are annyoed by having to stick with the SL, but I guess players who would do that dont appreciate PR for what it is about and i see annoying them as rendering them a service seen as it will drive them off PR and torwards games or mods that better fit their style of play and expectations.

Of course locking certain or all kits is up to discussion. I do not see why the CO should have the ability to lock the sniper kit, just because he doesnt like snipers (limited kit anyway), however I do see sense in him locking the pilot kit if he feels too many are trying for pilot and he has noone on the ground taking flags.

I was having a similar idea where all requestable kits are locked by default and only SL's could issue specific kits to specific members of their unit. That would go along with the rather small amount of those kits in total and would make them available right on the time you need them and not 10 minutes sooner or later.

Im a bit on the no side with this one, on one hand this could be used to great effect and work really well. But on the other hand it could be abused and ruin the game. I myself love to get a sniper kit and do recon but if there was a nub CO or one that didn't like snipers or SF or what ever the kit is then it will wreak the teamplay of having specialized sqds.

you start treating the players like cattle and soon all youll get is a stampede

Perfect example, I don't kick people from my squad, I inform them why they should leave cos i want someone else in or whatever and rely on their good nature, if they act like a **** then I'll kick the fegger :P

I like this idea. It will involve more of a general agree between people before you request a kit. Personally, I think some of the kits (such as Marksman and Rifle AT) you could request directly from your SL, while more complex kits like SF, Pilot and HAT would need Commander approval. Recon's got a good point though, get a foolish CO and all hell will break loose.

Honestly, I think this would just make it more difficult to get kits when they are needed.

It is a neat suggestion, but giving the commander so much power is open to abuse.

Its not the best idea, as it could easily be abused and griefed. such a plan is not without its merits though, and if you like this style of strict commander designated assets and kits, try the tournament. You may enjoy that.

I dont see what that would change. SL would just issue them anyway most of the time. Why shouldnt they ? He cant know the CO wants the HAT locked to one squad, or he could not care.

Kits would be avaiable by default, if the CO hates them, he would have to hate snipers A LOT to pop up the menue and lock the kit right at the start.

Thanks I will. Like I said I do not want it THAT strict. By default the kits should be free for all, but when he has a plan that requires a certain kit, or needs to do something about half the team running in pilot kits, that could come in handy. I wouldnt want to process every request for automatic rifleman or Marksman either. But if I need a certain squad to hog the hat to stand a chance against 2 tanks, or want a squad to have the spec ops kit so it can scale the guard tower on the PLS main id like that ability.

Apologies for the many posts in the row but I wanted to reply and figured a huge merger would have been much.

I do not see much sense in giving the SL the ability to unlock kits. He does not see the big picture. Why should he deny his squad a HAT on a map with tanks ? The CO sees the big picture and should have that ability and apply it IF it makes sense.

Exactly. Why not give it to an individual Squad-Leader at most.

The ability should infact not be given to the commander, but instead the squad leader. Having the CO trying to concentrate on the fight, and on silly arguements for kits will be a nightmare. However it would be good if the squad leader had the power to allow or disallow whether a squad member needs a special kit, via *Page Up/Page Down*.

But then thats just as easy to abuse really, and if you have a whole squad with specialists in more likely to loose it all in one IMO

I might be misunderstanding, but wouldn't squad limitations still apply?

I really like the idea that a SL can allow or refuse squad members kit requests. It has a couple of benefits

1, A SL can focus a squad's role
2, The "join squad, get kit, pi*s off" player is not as likely to get away with this
3, They'll also be put off playing the game as a whole, which I think is a good thing. I mean, it's a mod, not a retail game - PR can pick its players
