Most of the sniper rifles ARE broken. I can attest to that. Was testing the MEC and USA sniper kits on Kashan with a friend and you can't hit jack with them. Doesn't matter how long you lay still either. They're just plain broken. I think the Chinese one works fine though. During the tests it was literally easier to hit a target from the same distance with a scoped rifle than it was with the sniper rifle. Took less shots and less time.

like I said, patience. My first guess would be that you are shooting too fast. So yeah, apparently it IS difficult if you can't do it. The few rounds that I've played as a sniper/spotter it has been always about 40 kills for the sniper with no/very few deaths to either one of us.ZiRo wrote:Because centering a crosshair and clicking the mouse at 100m with a massivly scoped rifle is so difficult.
The key is to be patient and shoot from long range, this way they will have a hard time spotting you/shooting back. For example, on barracuda the US forces had secured the bridge. We were about 400m away sniping and we got over 20 kills before they even realized where we were.
I have no experience with the british sniper in this version, very little experience with the MEC one but I can assure you that both the US (army) and chinese sniper rifles work perfectly.

Kashan is noticeably iffy in the hills. Sometimes the game will not draw the map geometry properly from larger distances, and so you might end up shooting the ground that you didn't know was there. I noticed that it's much easier to shoot infantry on the bunkers and the ground around the bunkers than the spotters and snipers in the hills.Durandal wrote:Most of the sniper rifles ARE broken. When I am squad leading (or even when I am just a squad member) nothing annoys me more than someone just taking a sniper kit or marksman. This is because people rarely ask the squad leader, who 90% of the time doesn't need a sniper in his squad, if they can get it or if he wants them to get it. People tend to just grab it and then say 'I’ve got the sniper rifle' as though your meant to give them a round of applause or something. Most commonly happens not at the start in my case more often it happens when you have just built a bunker or firebase. Tends to happen alot with helos as well, people just jump in and say 'I’ll fly us!' even if you have just told your squad members to all jump in the lorry/apc/whatever.
Lots of love

Dont be pissed. I agree on the marksman kit, its supposed to support the squad, but while I think a niper has a place in the Team I dont want one in my squad. If he picks up the sniper kit id rather have him leave and be a one man squad, or a 2 man if he gets a spotter.Wicca wrote:What Usually happends to me is i make a squad, ppl join, when they spawn one guy takes a Marksman kit or Sniper kit, then leaves the squad.
And that! Pisses me off, so i have a general negative feeling towards sniping.

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
This is you not letting your rifle settle.ZiRo wrote:I would love to play a sniper, however all rifles i've tried have been stupidly inaccurate that it's pointless.
For example, engaging an enemy at 100m 3 shots all fired on him (stationary) missed, he hits the dirt (as I have been the whole time) and kills me with the first shot of his rifle.
For example, Enemy at 100m stationary looking through binoculars, only see shoulders and head, aim at his mouth of maximum opportunity, 2 shots, no hit.
For example, climbing a hill, enemy at top, spot each other, hit dirt, firing at each other, I miss him twice with dead on shots, APC in water (a good 3-400 meters away) has to take out the guy to save my bacon
Now, I'd be better off with a rifleman kit in all of these instances, because at least they shoot with a proper degree of accuracy. It's put me off the sniper kits, which isn't a victory - I'm very much a team player and not a poor shot.
When I play sniper (which is rarely) I count seconds off when I'm going to take a shot. 1 onethousand, 2 onethousand. I'll usually go to atleast 6 if not the full 8 seconds so I know I'm going to hit him. And if he moves to cover as I'm counting, then oh well, he's a lucky ******* and doesn't even know it.
In the story I posted earlier in this thread, I mentioned that I headshotted a marksman. Well, I watched this guy for atleast a minute before I pulled the trigger. He was in a guard tower and I noticed he was moving back and forth and ducking down, but he always stood up and scanned with his rifle for a second or two. So I put my crosshairs where I thought he would pop up and just sat there, sure enough, within 30 seconds he stood up, his head right in my sights and I fired. He did not pop his head up again.

Masaq's Patented Guide To 0.8 Snipers
- Find a good place to sit. (See previous posts about NOT being on the top of the highest building on the map/highest hill on the map/100m away from an enemy FOP)
- Draw out your rifle by pressing "3"
- Now you have drawn your rifle, DO NOT USE "W A S D" TO MOVE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO
- Look around for a target. If it's too big to kill (an entire enemy squad, an APC, a Tank, a helicopter etc), report it to the team. If it's a Squad-Leader or a single guy you can comfortably kill, go for it.
- Scope-in on the target with RMB
- Press "3" again... this will play an 8-second sound of your breathing. Once you have pressed 3, you should NOT move using W A S D at all until you have taken the shot. You should also avoid large movements with the mouse. If the target is running furiously, don't take the shot!
- When the breathing sound clip finishes, you should have your crosshairs over the target, who should ideally be stationary or moving slowly. If the latter, lead them slightly.
- Take the shot, and hold the LMB as you fire to see where the shot lands. You should see their body jerk as the round hits. If you missed, you'll see a dirt-splash near them.
- If you hit, reload and consider relocating.
- If you miss, examine your target through the scope for a little longer. Are they aware you just tried to hit them? Are they running away? If they hit the deck and tried to take cover, pick them off. If they're looking in your direction with their weapon sighted, get ready to return fire or run like hell. If they're running away as fast as possible, relocate yourself because they're alive and will be spamming "SNIPER IN D5" like crazy
- Relocate if need be.
- Return to Step 4

Playing sniper as Insurgent is different to playing as part of a well equipped squad.
Just something so satisfying about taking out the officer of a bunched up squad and watching the rest of them hit the dirt and fire everywhere..
wait 30 secs repeat... relocate....repeat..... hilarious!

i believe i do a good job as a sniper. assisting the us advance on the bridge on operation barracuda hitting high value targets 430 m away with someone spotting. Thats how it should be but sadly people have no clue. Half the people here don't even know you have to press 3 for the most accurate gun in the game to fire properly.

You don't HAVE to. Theoretically, you can always count yourself and never use the breathing.crAck_sh0t wrote:i believe i do a good job as a sniper. assisting the us advance on the bridge on operation barracuda hitting high value targets 430 m away with someone spotting. Yeah you did do a great job that round. Lol, you almost got kicked tho coz admins thought that you were baserapingCaboosehatesbabies wrote:I was playing a round today as Chinese on Qwai River. I started out in an APC with my squad mate and we kicked up, I racked up 39 kills to 1 death. One the way back to base one time we got TOW'd by a stealth humvee and then my squad mate had to go to bed. On my own now I spawned as engineer, took one of the 4 supply trucks, drove like a madman to near the US pig farm, and proceeded to make a minefield on the Northern road out of it. After about 10 minutes of this I got bored and decided to go find the source of the sniper fire I kept hearind. Within 1 minute I had spotted a US sniper who was trying, and failing, to pick off chinese in the Government Center. I easily snuck up on his and introduced him to Mr. Ouchy (my knife) and stole his kit. For the next HOUR AND A HALF I snuck around with this kit, during which time I managed to snipe an enemy sniper while under fire from his spec-ops spotter, then evade that spec-ops, scout out their main, telling our team about armor movements and LB's taking off. The area around me started getting alitte crowded as troops starting walking on the hill I was laying on to get to Processing Facility. I started crawling away and bumped right into a medic actively looking for me (I think this was the sniper I had gotten just a few minutes ago). Once pistoling him I moved north of processing facility, set up on another hill, and told the two squads assaulting it about enemies I saw inside. During which I got 2 confirmed kills, one a headshot on a marksman, another a bleed out on an LAT soldier. After we took the flag I walked ALLLL the way over to mine, spotted a TOW humvee guarding the entrance and relayed this to a squad, which saved their life as they slammed on the breaks of their Ningin and turned off the road. I then proceeded to snipe the TOW's gunner, clearing the way for the soldiers. I lasted for another few minutes before a LB spotted me on a hill and gunned me down.
That is what the sniper is for, Recon and taking out priority targets. The reason people dislike snipers is because most of the player who take the kit don't use it the way it was intended.

I hate who play as a CSS Sniper in PR. And I hate when the enemy sniper is good.

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
Yea settling time is the way to win with sniper and marksman. On muttrah I ran over the boulevard and a shot came from the left. I went prone and looked at an enemy marksmen ( I stole a marksman kit earlier ) He moved a bit to the left and almost fired a shot instantly after that. I was just lying prone and waiting for the invisible timer. I headshotted him right when I felt I had waited long enough. His shot didnt even come close
If he played it right ( wait a second or two because it was close and NOT move ) he would have killed me.

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
I use the marksman kit if I want to snipe. The gun is better and the grenade comes in very handy.
I would suggest giving the marksman a pistol for CQB in PR0.85.
In BF2 I go prone and use WASD to adjust my position. This style of plays means the sniper kit is unusable for me.

The marksman is supposed to have a squad to protect him, thus if you are sniping with the marksman kit, you are using it wrong.Banzai! wrote:I would suggest giving the marksman a pistol for CQB in PR0.85.

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
Actually I was recommending giving marksmen pistols so marksmen could work better with the squad.TheScot666 wrote:The marksman is supposed to have a squad to protect him, thus if you are sniping with the marksman kit, you are using it wrong.
In my squad it is understood that if the squad moves into a heavily built up area (i.e. Ramiel interior), the marksman is given leave to detach from the squad and set up on top of a roof, etc. (because marksmen are almost defenceless in CQB).
The squad will continue into the urban area while the marksman "lone wolfs" and kill everyone in the area, until the squad leader says "hey marksman we are out of the urban area come join me."
