Banzai! wrote:Actually I was recommending giving marksmen pistols so marksmen could work better with the squad.
In my squad it is understood that if the squad moves into a heavily built up area (i.e. Ramiel interior), the marksman is given leave to detach from the squad and set up on top of a roof, etc. (because marksmen are almost defenceless in CQB).
The squad will continue into the urban area while the marksman "lone wolfs" and kill everyone in the area, until the squad leader says "hey marksman we are out of the urban area come join me."
How are marksmen defenseless at CQB? Sure the M14 isn't great close up, but the L86 has full auto on it, so does the G3/SG-1. The PLA's rifle is also pretty good close-in, if you know where the centre of your screen is.
...plus, as someone else said, if they walk behind a squadmember with 3-round burst or Full Auto, they shouldn't need to hose down someone close up - their squad should be doing it for them.

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
Snipers hang back and try to kill without exposing themselves or their position, and won't (and should not) show themselves on a flag. In stead of fighting like a real man with open visor (excuse the expresion) and showing themselves, and be ready to reap what you sow, they hide.
They excuses themselves by saying they relay enemy positions and taking out high priority targets, but all the while they are not dodging close range bullets and grenades, trying to take a flag.
They share a place with the tank-whores, plane-whores, and in general, the point/K-D whores that say they do well for their team because they kill a lot, instead of playing with their team.
I like players who heal me, feed me ammo, or communicate and try to win in a fun way.
End rant i believe.

i don't snipe that much, but i like when i'm attacking a flag and sniper is stirring the pot, taking out static machinegunners and marksmen. the sniper isn't a teamplayer so he is supposed to have high killratios. that's a good sight that he's delaying the enemy for the rest of us

Actually, they probably are at the minute. DMRs have their deviation values far higher than they should be, and are due a tweak

Usually, as a SL, I prefer to have my squad with me. I don't mind people going sniper but create your own Sniping squad.

After using the sniper rifle myself and seeing some of my squad mates use it, as a SL I actually encourage the sniper kit over the marksmen kit.

really? we had a sniper in our squad that was standing and aiming down a road while we were running past him, and another dude in the squad said (with a hesitating voice) "...you do know that there's 8 seconds of settling time, right"

paragraphs.Caboosehatesbabies wrote:I was playing a round today as Chinese on Qwai River. I started out in an APC with my squad mate and we kicked up, I racked up 39 kills to 1 death. One the way back to base one time we got TOW'd by a stealth humvee and then my squad mate had to go to bed. On my own now I spawned as engineer, took one of the 4 supply trucks, drove like a madman to near the US pig farm, and proceeded to make a minefield on the Northern road out of it. After about 10 minutes of this I got bored and decided to go find the source of the sniper fire I kept hearind. Within 1 minute I had spotted a US sniper who was trying, and failing, to pick off chinese in the Government Center. I easily snuck up on his and introduced him to Mr. Ouchy (my knife) and stole his kit. For the next HOUR AND A HALF I snuck around with this kit, during which time I managed to snipe an enemy sniper while under fire from his spec-ops spotter, then evade that spec-ops, scout out their main, telling our team about armor movements and LB's taking off. The area around me started getting alitte crowded as troops starting walking on the hill I was laying on to get to Processing Facility. I started crawling away and bumped right into a medic actively looking for me (I think this was the sniper I had gotten just a few minutes ago). Once pistoling him I moved north of processing facility, set up on another hill, and told the two squads assaulting it about enemies I saw inside. During which I got 2 confirmed kills, one a headshot on a marksman, another a bleed out on an LAT soldier. After we took the flag I walked ALLLL the way over to mine, spotted a TOW humvee guarding the entrance and relayed this to a squad, which saved their life as they slammed on the breaks of their Ningin and turned off the road. I then proceeded to snipe the TOW's gunner, clearing the way for the soldiers. I lasted for another few minutes before a LB spotted me on a hill and gunned me down.
That is what the sniper is for, Recon and taking out priority targets. The reason people dislike snipers is because most of the player who take the kit don't use it the way it was intended.
snipers can hang back and cover their squad, or be in a small squad doing specialist roles, taking out other snipers, observing and warning of ambushers and high danger infantry, or go in first and be further back, so that incoming friendly forces have someone watching their approch route, essentially giving the squad the ability to see around corners.
the people who want the most kills all on their own are the ones crying the loudest about how its too hard and unrealistic to snipe now, the ones who are crying the noobs keep taking the rifle are either pissed cos they cant have it or pissed cos they know the person with it is shit and will be a drag, drawing out enemy squads and giving away good plans

If the hte player uses the kit well, he will make the difference by giving info and killing important targets.

Recently, squad leaders haven't minded a sniper in their squad, as people who like the kit for being leet drop it after realizing the 8 second delay, and people who know how to use it will have it instead.

This "hate on snipers" has to stop.
I've had snipers in my squad on occasions and marksmen more commonly, having also tried the new kits myself online. It's not uncommon for people to have a jive at you, no matter how you're percieved to be playing for a short length of time. Either firing off rounds at select enemy or simply holding fire and reporting enemy movements, there's quite often people assuming you're being a 'L33+5N1p0R'...

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
the excuse on spotting enemys is very, very weak. every other class can do it too, everyone got a binucular...
but dont get me wrong! i love to be a sniper, and i feel good when i take out the enemy AA kit shortly before a BH whit 7 people arrives. that makes my proud. the 7 dudes had to wait 1 minute again to respawn, if i wasnt there.
and i dont see the point that a sniper cant walk whit his squad. but try to move at alternative routes. flank the enemy, keep out of sight, check your map if a allied chooper is inbound, or a APC comes, and strike the HAT dude first. then switch position
lead your squad, move 50-100 meters infront of them,
warn them if you see something, tell them when you spotted a humvee to wait untill you killed the gunner.
your the range of your squad. kill special kits at any costs!, AA is also very dangeriuos.
try to find digged infantry.
and most important: KEEP TYPING! nothing worse as a sniper who doesnt tell anyone. you have 8 seconds time to type, use it.
and to other players. theres nothing worse as a LB pilot refuses to pick the sniper up.. even when hes just 60 meters away on a rooftop and asking for transport. "couse hes just a 1337 Sn1p0r.. noob", ALWAYS help everyone. maybe the sniper doesnt kill the annoying AA kit next time..
snipers are a great addition to tactics and movment of a squad. a well placed sniper in the neck of a enemy squad will be devestating.
however. i would love it if the officier kit get more obivos marks. something like a radio on his back or a gigantic backpack....

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
On maps like Barracuda the sniper is invisible. I got as close as 60m because spotting swamp is a pain with all the cover from trees, found their firebase, marked it and hoped the attck chopper wouldnt take me out with it.the other Steve wrote:the excuse on spotting enemys is very, very weak. every other class can do it too, everyone got a binucular...

Re: Why the hate on snipers.
I supose I am the odd one. I prefer to defend a point than attack one. I find the sniper kit quite well suited to this. Although I must admit I have not tried the sniper kit recently. I started using assult rifles in .7 since they had about the same range, scops, and lower ready time before fireing.
