With the new deviation system in .8 giving the sniper rifle an 8 second aim time I had a thought that may improve the rifle performance.
First increase the aim time to something like 15seconds then remove all bullet drop so your shot goes right on the cross hair. This simulates the sniper taking time to carefully zero his sights and then make a single fatal shot on an important target. You couldn't wipe out squads since you need 15seconds to re-aim and you need to sit still as well but you won't miss as much when you do decide to fire.
What you think?

can we get both? wait 8 seconds and fire with drop, or wait an extra 8 seconds for no drop.

Sniper rifles in PR are zeroed to 900meter I believe. That means all drop is compensated up to 900 meters (again, I believe). It's just not necessary.

ya but its not the drop that gets u its the fact the round will hit high...i like the idea of after 15 seconds the bullet goes right where the crosshair is tbhCaboosehatesbabies wrote:Sniper rifles in PR are zeroed to 900meter I believe. Re: Idea for the sniper rifle.
no guns are zeroed, you have to aim above where you want to hit at all ranges. i agree 15 sec delay then no bullet drop, Now you may think that this would make it too easy, but it would do the opposite, if a less skilled player shot and missed they would have to wait 15 sec before they could take another shot.
so in the end i am thumbs up for this idea, and on the coding side it is like 30 sec of work....

nope, not realistic. First of all, there IS bullet drop IRL. And I've never heard of a sniper who has to wait 15 seconds between every shot.
And, putting the realism factor aside, this would just slow down the guys who can actually use the rifle properly.

The sniper rifles are seroed at 600m but you dont have to compensate that much after that.

That makes no sense. (at least to me)zangoo wrote:no guns are zeroed, you have to aim above where you want to hit at all ranges.

What he means is, guns aren't zereo'd in the sense that they would be IRL - a range is set at which the bullet hits exactly where the gun is aimed. Below that distance, the bullet hits above the aiming point, and beyond it, below the aiming point (as bullets fly an arc).
In BF2 however, rounds fly in a slight slope from the barrel to the "range" distance, and then fairly sharply tail off. What that means is, up to the zereo'd distance your round will hit slightly below the aiming point, and beyond it, more so.
Just one of the many many ways in which the BF2 engine makes no sense at all, folks!
