[Weapon] Insurgent Shovel [WIP]

Post by Scot »

First of, this isn't a new model, simply a reskin to make it look woody and then sort of rusty at the end, as the one now is to clean and military for them. So yeah, that's it for now, will post updates when needed :)

So you pretty much just want to dirty it up and make the shaft wooden because the handle should still be metal.
However, might I suggest keeping it all metal? I actually have an old metal folding shovel (non-military) laying around somewhere. It is red with a serrated edge on one side of the shovel. I'll try to get some pictures up for you by the weekend.
If you need any work done with tweaks, cons or the Shader wrapper (which you'll be needing to use to give the model your new skin) I'd be glad to help.
By the way, your new sig is creepy as hell.

Okay, I'm very confused and annoyed right now, so any help is appreciated. So I looked at this link which EOD sent me:
Cloning Vehicles And Textures? - Official BF Editor Forums

sort of understood it, but god knows what it did, so anyone willing to send me in the right direction to starting actually getting it in game or getting a blank UV map of the shovel from me to start from scratch, or any info on how the hell you start reskin something please help!! I can do the photoshop bit, its all the other bits which gimmie trouble ;)

I don't think we can get you a UV map. The UV map gets collasped and lost right after you make the model (unless you're saving in between).

yeah well I'm just wondering what to do so I can start doing whatever it is I need to do, cos for example, I can make the metal texture with dirt etc, and the wooden one if im going to use it, all on a blank piece of photoshop, but its the reskinning bit where i'm stumped.

dude, just backup the original shovel texture then open it in ps and paint over it. The texture is the UV map with some colouring in over the top!

Just dont go onto the black and you should be fine :)

If you want to view your results, open 3dmax, import the shovel.con (or whatever) using the POE tools, then assign your texture to it. Then if you have ps and 3dsm open at the same time, when you press save in ps, your skin will update in 3dsm. This is the best way to work imo, as you can see how your skin looks on the model as you go, rather than having to guess.

Good luck!

Just realised I've been stupid, and EOD is right, didnt read all of his post in my excitement, so the handle will be a dull grey, maybe a slightly plastic top handle.

Right, finally some proper work is here :) (well i hope you guys consider it proper :p )

For the time being concentrate on the two side ones, ignore the back one, but just some feedback would be nice :)

Its good dude, but really, is it worth posting EVERY time you texture a little bit? its just a handle, a nice handle, but is nothing more than....a handle :)

Get the bulk of it done and we'll be able to give some proper feedback. Its like texturing a soldier, starting with the boots and saying 'guys do you like the laces?'

'I dunno I haven't seen the rest of it yet!'

Yes I like what you've done so far, I like the highlights, but finish the fking thing!!

Looking good, it looks like most modern civilian folding shovels now. Granted, I don't know how many people in the middle east actually own folding shovels, but that's not the point.

Well unless someone wants to model a new shovel, then it will have to do.

Shouldn't be too hard, try it out exec. Just make it the shovel head and a wooden pole for the handle.
