Fastropes - LOL i know
Ok first off I would like to avoid any flaming by inviting someone to lock/delete this if it is a stupid idea.
I know everyone is saying that fastropes are "hardcoded" and impossable, but i have never seen anyone suggest redoing the parachute to be a fastrope. It probobly wouldnt take much to make it happen either i meen it would just take the parachute's code and make it so it cant be steered. I wouldnt even need a model.
Just my thoughts on the subject. I like to think new but this topic wont go away so i'm trying to add new ideas to this delima. If u have evedence to prove this cant be done shoot it down, but dont just shut it out at the mentioning of the dreaded fastrope.

thats honestly an interesting idea, but whats to stop people from jumping from cliffs and "fastroping" down to safety? Archer comes to mind here

by-Jove........This might actually work!, except having fastropes in PR would be a horrendous gameplay dynamic. Hovering over bunkers while people do a 7 second fast rope....and getting blown to bits by an AA gun just for hovering. Use your head man, even if it DOES work, in what circumstances would it benifit?
would be sweet on urban maps. and any maps without Anti air assets.

We would need a time limit on the thing. That way it isn't someone just floating down from 20000 ft under nothing. That's my only issue. Everything else would be cool but that's the only thing biting it in the butt

So a team of arguably the best devs in all of the BF2 modding community who have been at this project for years mind you, would have overlooked a solution as simple as that? Don't you think that they haven't already tried, or at least another mod has?
It would be quite stupid to see a squad of soldiers grabbing onto invisible ropes and sliding down while their ride is already on its merry way.
So a team of arguably the best devs in all of the BF2 modding community who have been at this project for years mind you, would have overlooked a solution as simple as that? Don't you think that they haven't already tried, or at least another mod has?

Can it not be made so that you cant deploy the Parafastrope UNLESS your chopper's deployed an invisible static (or even a visible one of fastropes) and the fastropee deploys the fastropechute within 5m of the static... Kinda like a Fastropecrate

Maybe the devs should post a list of ideas that they have tried just to give the community an idea of what they have tried, and why fastropes will never see daylight in PR.

My best one is having the chopper spawn an invisible region (don't know if it is possible) just longer than the chopper and wider than the chopper, with a depth (z axis) of ten meters. This lasts for only a few seconds (don't know if a time limit would be possible). Players don't take fall damage while in this region (don't know if this is possible either).

It would be interesting to see if this would work
but I doubt the Devs will work on it much anyway, with good reason, as Fastropes would only be good for getting in to narrow streets, and why would we do this? Safer to land, don't want to hover close to the ground for a 50 cal to get ya, or an RPG.

This was supposed to be in the final Battlefield 2 version, but they took it away because, yeah when you think about it its pretty worthless.

Wait how about using the crossbow thing from SF? Maybe use that as the fast rope? Just need to re animate so it looks like fast rope not whatever it's called( can't think of it just bruned out brain making this much of my sig)

Yea they're pretty pointless since rotor blades dont clip in this game.
