Pedals and steering Wheel?

Post by badmojo420 »

I was just wondering if anyone uses pedals and a wheel for PR? And how does it work? Also does force feedback work? I love being a driver in pr. But when driving it seems so unrealistic having to steer and gas 100% or nothing. I figured i'd ask here if it works, and how good. Before i drag my rig outta the closet and get all disappointed when it sucks.

I don't think Force Feedback works in BF2. I Maybe wrong on that. But "Pedals and steering Wheels" from most brands should work fine as long as you set them up right. It's just the same setup system as joysticks.

As for using them in game. Not worth the time it takes to move your steering Wheel to the middle of the desk when you have a hummvi/vodnic/dpv/go kart to drive. By the time you have it in place. You could have been 2 grids down the road. And hell if you have to bail out fast, You will have to get to your keyboard fast so you can move about.

Yeah, I can't see how it wouldn't work. Sometimes the control mapping in BF2 is dumb, but there are ways to get around that by accessing some configuration file in notepad or something. If it isn't a simple setup I'd just ask around to find out how exactly that method works (I'm not sure myself).

I disagree. The Original Poster has said he really enjoys being an in-game driver. That kind of dedicated station can really help a team out. If you're constantly ferrying troops to the front line and communicating with the squads you're working with, then your actions are worthwhile.

You should be able to use your steering wheel while in the vehicle, and just move your hands over to your keyboard and mouse if you have to make an emergency exit from your vehicle for some reason. But if you don't mean to leave your vehicle, how often is that going to happen? Besides that takes all of 0.7 seconds tops.

An analog throttle/ accelerator can really help the drivers in game. Trying to keep at a steady walking pace or to the speed of a different vehicle in a convoy can be annoying with WASD. Grab it out of the closet and dust it off I say.

Does your throttle have some sort of a detent in the middle? Otherwise, I imagine getting your APC/tank to stop might be a problem as you try to hunt down the zero spot. Unless you have A LOT of practice with it, or actually check the throttle visually as you move it.

It has labeled degrees of thrust.

In the pic you see 0. It has 50 and thats where it has like a 0 speed.

I tried it, works great. Except i can't set any buttons in common controls because they're conflicting with my joystick settings. (Both Joy 4 for example) Anyone know a way around this?

I wouldn't want to use it when i'm going to be doing a lot of fighting on foot. But if i'm going to be driving a stryker around for a whole round it works great. I still have access to my keyboard and mouse.
